    1. I understand that the author was pandering to the sense of self-importance of the novel’s teenage readers but the entire story of the bloody dictator counting how many times a girl kissed either of two boys she likes is not very believable. It would be easier to start a new TV show.

        – Mine, too. I knew you and I had that in common. 😦

  1. It felt scary enough. Just try putting yourself in Katniss shoes.
On the other hand, the President could be more Machiavellian, assuming he is a totalitarian dictator whose rule is based to a large extent on psychological torture. I could easily, within one minute, think of at least one scenario of killing Katniss off early on without turning her into a martyr – making sure some relative of a dead tribute kills her as an act of personal vengeance during her tour…
Hmm… Does it mean I should become a totalitarian dictator?

      1. There is a universal problem with bad guys in many books and movies – they just talk too much, they cannot shut up, trying to explain themselves for some unfathomable reasons, instead of just killing the good guys already…

          – SO true!! And I never noticed it before. . . Fascinating observations. This could totally be a doctoral dissertation.

  2. If you want a laugh, just mentally replace “Katniss” with “Tater Tot”, and remember that Peeta sounds just like “pita” as in “pita bread.” Or alternatively, “p(ain) i(n) t(he) a(ss).” After all, the author makes it clear Katniss is named after a root vegetable, and she rapturously describes all the food she’s eating.
