You gotta love Americans. Here is one complaining that because of bad, mean capitalism s/he has few food choices. When I read this kind of crap from spoiled over-fed drama queens, I always remember my childhood when I only saw cheese once a year and our mothers had to invest hundreds of hours into hunting after a sad can of peas. One has be really blind to what alternatives to capitalism look like to have the gall to whine about pizza with a wrong crust.

Russia: as homophobic as ever.

It’s completely ridiculous that the Trayvon Martin case is confusing people so much. An unhinged hysteric shot a person. Who cares what anybody called anybody else or what the victim’s friend looks like? We should all stop being so kind and understanding towards hysterics.

Dealing with fire drills while autistic.

Let’s prevent the government in Ohio from using Big Brother strategies to police doctors and patients.

How Egypt’s revolution was predicted.

No matter how hard and dull you find an activity, unless you can be fired from doing it or suffer repercussions for lousy performance, this activity is not a job. This is why a post that repeats ad nauseam that “parenting is a job” deserves the title of the most stupid post of the week.

Please, please beware of online diploma mills. Forget about all these stinky Phoenixes and DeVrys and go to a real university.

One more amongst the many egregiously offensive uses of the word “rape.”

A goose with mulberry sauce. Is this delicious or what?

Just one among the multitude of examples demonstrating that MOOCs are stupid and a total waste of time. Stop looking for an easy way out, people. Real learning takes real time and real effort.

Have monogamy and devotion become a symbol of success?

  1. I’m so tired of hearing about the Trayvon Martin case. The whole thing has been politicized to the point where I can’t even tell who’s telling the truth, so I haven’t kept up with the trial or any of that stuff at all. I think George Zimmerman himself is also part Hispanic.

I’m also happy that DOMA is dead. What a pointless law to have at all. Hopefully the next step will be taken.

  2. You will be amused and unsurprised to know that the Chronicle of Higher Ed rejected that diploma-mill piece. Is it because as writing, it stinks? Perhaps. Is it because it is decidedly advertiser-unfriendly (Western Governors “University” is a big online advertiser)? Wouldn’t want to make any assumptions. Is it because it insists, in my old-fashioned way, that going to class and being expected to learn something are the only appropriate avenues to a college education, and thus against the “competency based”/MOOC trend? I’ll never know. Either way, I thought you’d find that interesting.

      – Unsurprised, indeed. They have turned into a cess-pool of dishonesty and unprofessionalism.

“Is it because as writing, it stinks?”

      – It’s very good writing.

“Is it because it is decidedly advertiser-unfriendly (Western Governors “University” is a big online advertiser)?”

      – Exactly. At least, we have our own blogs to discuss this disturbing trend in higher education.

  3. One can indeed be fired from parenting, either as part of a divorce where he is forbidden any contact with his children, or more commonly if ones children are taken away by the state.

that attitude, regarding any sort of injustice, not to mention bad behavior or craziness, has become the norm. I don’t know when it began to be so, but the attitude of “everybody has a point and is entitled to their perspective, no matter how outrageous, unless of course we do not like you”, just goes on and on.

  5. Thank you for posting the link to the “Scam U” post. I’ve been noticing the verbiage “non-profit” in the advertising for universities I’ve never heard of. This confirms my suspicion that it’s some kind of non-profit-in-name-only arrangement borne out of loopholes and the like.

  6. McALLEN — In this Roman Catholic stronghold, where abortion is deeply stigmatized, reproductive health providers tell stories of women going to pharmacies across the border in Mexico, in search of a drug they hope will terminate unwanted pregnancies.

But the providers say that the pharmacies, which are largely unregulated, often fail to give proper instructions for the drug, misoprostol, and that it does not always give the women the result they seek.

many health providers also say that women crossing into Mexico to buy misoprostol are ignoring important follow-up care.

Abortion-rights advocates are concerned that a lack of awareness about clinical options in the United States — as well as a lack of funds — could lead more women to go underground and risk their health in this way.

    1. If all of these women and people who care about them refused to vote for Rick Perry and Co, they wouldn’t have this problem. Wendy Davis’s heroism will not be enough until Texans wake up. It looks like they are waking up but it takes time.

Topless ‘whores from hell’ arrested in Swedish mosque after shedding burkas

three women from the activist group Femen entered the mosque at around 11 a.m. and threw off their burkas to reveal bare skin covered in anti-religious messages.

“No to Sharia! No to oppression! Free women!” the women shouted in English.

All three were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

“We’re lucky if we got arrested,” Egyptian activist Aliaa Elmahdy explained to AftonBladet after being released from jail. “If we did that demonstration in my country, we were going to get raped, we’re going to be cut with knives, we were going to be killed.”

Last year, Elmahdy was kidnapped in Egypt after posting a nude photo of herself on her blog. She has now been given political asylum in Sweden and is working with the group Femen to fight the oppression of women by religion and the sex industry.

I have some comments about it.

    1) This post is bad. He talked about capitalism and free markets but he doesn’t know what those terms means. The last sentence of his post is a raving lunacy.

    2) I agree that capitalism reduces food choices but bolchevism is way worse. This is not the case in a real free market, enhancing non-market alternatives.

    3) Capitalism/bolchevism is not the only alternative to bolchevism/capitalism. There are plenty of other alternatives.

      1. I talked about even alternatives that we don’t know about.

A successful case of self-management by workers was in function at the beginning of the Israeli Kibbutz. Unfortunately, those kibbutzim are becoming too close of the government, so this is in the neighborhood of capitalism. 😦

          – If we don’t know about them, how can we be sure they exist? 🙂

          – A small-scale experiment by a group of visionaries can almost never be replicated, let alone brought to a large scale.
