I received the following piece of crapola from somebody at work who decided it is a good idea to send this arrant idiocy as a chain email to everybody working at a university:
Sandy Hook Elementary School
Twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38When 20 beautiful children stormed through Heaven’s gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy; they didn’t know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“Where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“This is heaven” declared a small boy. “We’re spending Christmas at God’s house”.
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
But Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only Heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King.
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of Mom and Dad.”
Then He looked down on Earth, at the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!
May this country be delivered from the hands of fools
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools! ”
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“Come now my children let me show you around. ”
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”
It scares me to be working with a person who says “I thank God for the person who wrote this.” Crazy creep. I hope she doesn’t have any guns at home because she sounds like a very scary person.

I just see it as her means to communicate her acceptance/adaptation to something that causes her pain. It’s not suppsed to be logical…, it’s like shouting ouch when it hurts. You all seem to be overanalyzing 🙂

This is work email. She should be dumping her psychological issues on her therapist on her time and her money. Why should I be the dumping ground for her hysteria? People should make an effort to remain calm and professional in work settings. This emotional garbage has no place in work correspondence.

I suppose, she like many (most?) other Christians believes non-Christians go to hell for eternity, and post-mortem baptism solves the problem of feeling bad about children (and people in general) in hell. If it doesn’t make “linear” sense, it’s since people’s beliefs and mental games often don’t.

The moron who wrote this must have a mental disorder. An embarrassment to anyone who has a rational religious belief and interpretation of religion, like I do. I would never try forcing any of my beliefs on someone else like this. The separation of church and state is highly important to me.

This is along the lines of people who say “Oh, she’s in a better place now…” when your sister dies. It is disrespectful to the grieving. I despise when people act like it’s alright that people were robbed of their life on earth because “now they are in heaven and everything is wonderful there”.

When there are social networks, blogs, Facebook, etc., there is really no need to inflict this on one’s colleagues. Especially at a state university where we observe the separation of church and state guaranteed by the constitution.

I don’t know what the original looked like. She just copy=pasted it into the email and sent it to everybody, I guess. Weird person.
When I wanted to send out an invitation to a scholarly presentation in the same manner, I had to jump through hoops and finally get the Chair to do it for me. And this creep just goes and sends this garbage easily. I’m sure it’s so much more important than scholarly presentations.

From here, it seems like Americans are becoming more insane. They have been, ever since Reagan, attacking themselves in a kind of auto-immune reaction, which leads them to try to do away with benefits, including education. I think they have the wrong meme in their guts, which is causing this strange reaction.

Our university is the country in microcosm. There are a few lazy hysterics and hundreds of hard-working normal people. But the lazy hysterics who don’t do a stroke of work all day long and have a lot of energy to vociferate yell, moan, complain, bitch and have fits so much that everybody is terrified of them. The hard-working people can never really oppose them because if you do work and expend your energy, you will not be able to outshriek them. Even the Provost is terrified of these freakazoids.

Of course, it isn’t just their laziness. It’s also the stupidity, the fanaticism, the overentitlement, the immaturity. Such people never grow up and no matter how old they are they expect everybody to mother them into infinity. This is why this probably middle-aged person dumps her emotional garbage on strangers.

Yeah, could be. To be honest, I would much prefer a colder, more British culture, than that of USA. I wouldn’t mind if someone sent me an absurdity like you posted, but once they go on the attack, implying that I am not really female or not really responsible, or not really caring, because I don’t respond to the absurd thing, then I feel very threatened. It happens here, too, and it has been a huge problem to me that I don’t know how to respond to things that other people want to become frenzied about. The gender role thing has been a huge problem for me.

Well there’s no evidence this was created to be a chain mail kind of thing (that is there’s no evidence that it was the author who sent it out).
Applying a little empathy my best guess this is someone’s attempt to cope with horrifying, insane news of the kind that profoundly disorients people so I’m not going to criticize the contents.
You can criticize the judgement of those who keep sending it but they probably thought it might help others (and why anyone who strongly disagrees with the contents would read past the second line is not clear). I’ve gotten similar emails (not about this particular event) and as soon as I realize I’m not the target audience I junk them.

– By chain mail I mean it was sent to every single employee without consulting their wishes as to whether they want their mailboxes to be cluttered with this garbage.

– We have very clear guidelines as to what is appropriate and undergo hours of tedious mandatory ethics training. I don’t care what this creapazoid is dealing with but I insist that it is not specified anywhere in my contract that I have to allow to be insulted in this manner.

– Ha ha ha. A colleague of mine tried to do that last month and is still recovering. You have no idea how unhinged these frustrated harpies are. They don’t oblige anybody but their crazed hormones.

If your colleague is still recovering, then perhaps it is a matter of ethics/harassment. There should be a person in the administrative building taking care of these issues. At any rate, this email perhaps should be flagged.

Well, sender is so freaked out at the deaths that they have to sing this song to themselves to stop thinking about it, and also is convinced this might mean life has no meaning, so hastens to affirm that Jesus Still Saves, and is further convinced that everybody else is similarly infantile.
