I answered two surveys at work today, both of which listed as answers to the question of “What is you gender?” male, female, and transgender. This is one of those cases when people try to be politically correct in the most superficial way possible and end up being offensive. Transgender people are male or female. They are not a separate gender.

I think they mean intersex but have confused it with trans. Of course, they could look it up online, especially since they are diversity officers, but . . . you know.

Google maps, in an effort to improve it’s information, asks for reviews and asks questions about places one has been. Invariably, it asks if the shop/building/etc has a unisex bathroom.
They are building a database for people who want to tinkle alone, and it is likely based on the political hysteria about transgenders being this, that, and everything else. The highest estimate that has ever been drawn puts them at 1 per 30000 people in the population, yet the subject has the ability to suck all of the oxygen off of the face of the earth.

So true. The bathrooms is such an insignificant issue compared with the really big issues that trans people face.

I feel like the bathroom stuff is to the trans community as gay marriage is to the gay community. Sure, I have no issue with gay marriage, but people ignored all other gay issues in favor of it. Now everyone acts like the battle is won, meanwhile anti -gay employment discrimination is still legal many places, anti-gay violence is on the rise, and gay people suffer from higher rates of poverty than straight people. But the face of the gay community is rich white people with no problems, so everyone assumed we don’t have any issues anymore.
I worry the same thing is happening with trans activism, considering all the focus on Caitlyn Jenner and various tv shows. Where is the focus on the rampant poverty, drug addiction, suicide rates, violence, lack of access to healthcare (both related to transition and unrelated)? Hell, even boring bureaucratic issues like the ability to change your gender marker on things are a more pressing issue I think. Many trans activists are talking about these issues, but most people aren’t listening because for some reason bathrooms are very exciting to people.
You and I largely don’t agree on trans issues, but we can always agree that the bathroom battle is a distraction from more important issues.
