What He Tells Them

And by the way, I have no doubt that what Obama is telling his audience in his $400,000 speeches is all the crucial stuff about the liquid capital, fluidity, and transformations in statehood that no politician has the gut to tell all of us. Mostly because we don’t want to hear.

It makes total sense that the emissary from the fading nation-state should brief capital on when said nation-state will remove the last obstacles from the capital’s way. (Answer: now that Americans elected capital to lead the nation-state, irreversibly soon.)

Here’s where we’re different – you’ve lost a lot of your Soviet cynicism and I’ve gained a fair amount of Central/Eastern European cynicism. I like to think I can keep it in check but it’s there (where it wasn’t before).

My assumption is that he doesn’t really speak at all (or no one listens which comes to the same result) the speaking engagements are a way to reward him for services rendered and/or bring him into the debt of those riding the liquid capital wave (who don’t need anyone to explain to them what they’re doing).

An alternate way to think of it is that now that he’s free of the burdensome office of president he’s being invited into the circle of the real decision makers (echoing an early Mad Men episode).

  2. New York (CNN) Former President Barack Obama hailed the political resilience of his signature health care law at a private event Thursday, pointing out that Obamacare is now more popular than his successor trying to repeal it: President Donald Trump.

As Republicans in Washington sputtered again this week in their efforts to undo the law, Obama noted to an audience in midtown Manhattan that “the Affordable Care Act has never been more popular — and it’s more popular than the current president,” according to a person in the room who paraphrased the comments.

Trump has recorded historically low approval ratings for a new president, while public opinion on the health care law has improved gradually amid Republican efforts to get rid of it.

Obama also predicted Thursday that it will be challenging for Trump and fellow Republicans to make any sweeping changes to a law that now provides health insurance for so many people, as he remarked how difficult it was for him to get Obamacare enacted into law in 2009.

  3. The speech is at a healthcare conference and is about healthcare.

Cantor Fitzgerald was solicited by the organizers of the conference to make a donation so they could get Obama to speak about healthcare.
