Not Trying

It’s absolutely amazing to me how many people are not even trying. I have no idea how they explain it to themselves and what kind of a vision of themselves is compatible with such an aggressive refusal to make the slightest effort.


Good People

When you admire somebody’s work as an academic, you want them to be decent human beings, too. Today I discovered that an academic I admire a lot is a really upright, honest and strong human being. And that makes me very happy.

Shameful Journalism

That left Mr. Corallo with concerns that Ms. Hicks could be contemplating obstructing justice, the people said.

I don’t know how you can write this sentence and still remain in the profession of journalism. It’s more meaningful to write about high school basketball games in Podunk, North Dakota than to cover this deranged crap.
