I’m loving my FB parenting group. Today, a woman shared that she and her husband are using this great parenting system on their 3 and 5-year-olds. They learned it from a friend who works at a correctional facility and is implementing it with the inmates.
My dept. chair famously told me a good teacher was a good prison guard.

The famous Soviet pedagogue Makarenko, who rehabilitated thousands of kids with serious criminal backgrounds, said that the #1 thing was never to treat these kids as criminals or inmates. Only as human beings with a sense of dignity. So I guess your chair has very different pedagogical principles. 🙂

I don’t know how alike parenting small children and controlling inmates is but I’m revulsed at the idea. Prison in America isn’t about rehabilitation for the most part.

You know you don’t have to tell me that. This is very sad. It’s unbelievable that people don’t hear how it sounds.

I would’ve been sorry for the poor kids, hadn’t I been sure they are as bad at implementing this system as they are at choosing what to adopt. 🙂

His father is OK with his son suffering because of his ego:
// While Sayed is worried about his family’s safety, particularly Donald’s, he remains stubbornly unrepentant. “It’s likely… that he will be harassed or beaten by his classmates,” he said matter of factly.
“I won’t reconsider (his name). To hell with the other people.” //
