Did Trump Commit Treason in Helsinki?

The foaming at the mouth over entirely anodyne comments Trump made in Helsinki should be prompting us to ask what it is the shriekers are trying to conceal. Some idiot wrote that “Trump betrayed every American citizen” yesterday.

It’s unclear what Trump could have done to avoid being accused of this massive betrayal. Sock Putin in the face? Enter into a childish game of “Yes, you did! – No, I didn’t! – You did, too!”? Fall on his knees and wail, “I recognize I only won because of your help. Hillary is the true president!”?

Merkel and Macron wait for Putin to come to meetings for hours.* They are well-aware that he tried manipulating elections in their countries AGAINST them. Yet they smile, shake his hand, and say thank you and please. And unlike Trump they promote Putin’s financial interests. Ukrainian president Poroshenko meets with Putin, shakes his hand, and calmly listens to his assertions that Russia never invaded Ukraine. Are they all committing treason?

Obama calmly listened to Putin tell him things his intelligence contradicted and acted like the lies were true. Yeah, Putin is a liar. He denied invading a country, which is something that is easier to prove than nebulous election interference. And Obama never threw the massive proof he was lying in his face.

The folks who shriek “treason!” have their hands in our pockets. They are being dishonest and manipulative. Let’s not buy into this ridiculousness.

* Putin has a KGB habit of showing up hours late always. Only once did Merkel refuse to wait, giving Russian dissidents fleeting hope she was going to start standing up to him.

Do you know whether Trump was made to wait too? What about Obama?
I hope not since this would have been super humiliating.

Since you are following news unlike me, what is Poroshenko’s goal here? What does Ukraine win out of not openly stopping diplomatic relations?

      • Putin was 30 mins late to the meeting with Trump. But Trump was 50 minutes late and made him wait. 🙂 And Putin had to eat it and smile.

      • Poroshenko knows that Ukraine can’t do it alone. If the behemoths – the US, Germany, the IMF – tell him to show up and smile, he shows up and smiles. That’s the condition for Ukraine getting money from the IMF. As a result, Ukraine’s economy is growing in times of war, which is unheard-of and even the IMF is stunned. And Poroshenko will be voted out of office soon because Ukrainians are understandably angry with him for shaking Putin’s hand and smiling. It’s hard for a regular person to see the connection between this and the economy not completely tanking. I don’t necessarily blame Ukrainians but I deeply respect Poroshenko for the truly heroic work he has done for the country. He looks aged by a decade every time he comes out of one of these humiliating meetings with Putin. But he couldn’t go against Obama and Merkel who threatened him into going into these meetings.

  2. Mais la. From what I can tell he was amazingly rude and indecorous, spoke against US agencies in Putin’s favor, and so on. An ambassador would be recalled, fired and investigated … and would probably end up in rehab, because nobody so poorly prepared would normally make it to an ambassadorship, and this was the performance of a person flipping out or on drugs

  3. With all the news saturation about Helsinki, did you miss the coverage of the middle-aged (51 y.o.) protester who was forcibly removed from the press conference after holding up a protest sign?

He was a Palestinian-American “journalist” who writes for “The Nation” magazine (of course!), and he states that he had planned to ask Trump and Putin what they were going to do about the imminent treat to world peace caused by Israeli nuclear weapons.

You can ready his story at http://www.thenation.com is you want a good laugh.

  4. // Trump says he misspoke on Russian election meddling
After massive pressure was applied on him by his own party’s members, US president Trump admits Russia meddled in 2016 elections; however, according to Trump, Russia’s meddling had no effect; former CIA agent says Russia has been and will continue manipulating US elections.

“The Russians have been manipulating elections for the past couple of decades,” Rep. Will Hurd, R-Texas, a former undercover CIA officer, told CNN. “And guess what? They’re going to continue.”

Well, if Russians have truly manipulated elections for decades, Americans can sleep in peace.
They didn’t prevent Obama being elected twice!
Do not remember whether Republicans were shouting Obama was elected by Russians.

    1. Well, of course, they didn’t prevent Obama from being elected. Obama ran against the most anti-Russian politicians in the US both time. John McCain is an anti-Russian fanatic who makes me look like a Putin fan.

Obama let Russians invade Ukraine and Syria with no repercussions whatsoever. It’s impossible to imagine McCain doing that. Obama was a gift to the Russians.

None of these guys are so anti-Russian that they’re not going to check someone they condemn as a cats-paw and a disaster. Romney tried to audition to be Trump’s Secretary of State. John McCain voted for Gorsuch and if he’s alive and able will wheel himself in to vote for Kavanaugh.

Trump’s position/not position on Crimea is something Putin is willing to forgo for the chaos in the US government that is happening right now. The State Department has been gutted.

Trust and believe that John Kasich is going to pop up as the Mr. Clean in a Republican presidential primary or something else of that nature in the near future.

          • That’s absolutely true. This was the whole point for Putin: the chaos in the US government. He’s feeding on it like a blood-sucking tick.

This is why I like my blog. People here get it. I checked out discussion sections at a few other blogs and it was horrible. The amount of ignorance is staggering.
