Resistance Is Expensive

A record number of women are running on the Democratic ticket for Congressional office, over 200 in fact. This scarf depicts each and every one of these sheroes in hand-drawn illustrations by artist Alexandra Posen. The Herwave silk wrap is available for $125 at Resistance By Design. 100% of its profits will go to organizations supporting Democratic women in government.

The scarf is incredibly ugly, by the way.

Taking Yourself Very Seriously

Right now, all I can think of is that I need to get up from this desk and walk into the kitchen and make myself some lunch. So I’m going to do that. Nourishing myself is necessary, immediate self-care, and it’s also all the self-care I can manage at the moment.

I’ve been accused of being pompous but even I would never say “nourishing myself is necessary, immediate self-care I can manage” instead of saying “I gotta go eat.”

NYTimes: #IAmSexist

If you are a woman reading this, I have failed you. Through my silence and an uninterrogated collective misogyny, I have failed you. I have helped and continue to help perpetuate sexism. I know about how we hold onto forms of power that dehumanize you only to elevate our sense of masculinity. I recognize my silence as an act of violence. For this, I sincerely apologize.

As a woman reading this, I think you are a self-aggrandizing, self-promoting dick of the first caliber and I sincerely ask you to stuff it.

Are there women who find this kind of thing cute?

I didn’t read until the end, which I normally do before linking but I couldn’t stand so much slobbering self-congratulation.

More on the Election

Have you, folks, heard Nancy Pelosi’s pronouncement that she doesn’t mind if those who disagree with her suffer collateral damage?

This is a party led by some dumbasses of the first order nationally and with great local folks who have to bust their asses to undo the damage that all these MaxineWaterses and KristineGillibrands are inflicting.

It would be super easy to wipe out the Republicans in this midterm with a message of unity, love thy neighbor, we are all one country, enough of this anger and discord, everybody is a good person.

But we have great local candidates running, even for small offices. So I’m holding on to that. I’m very excited for Katie Stuart, our great state house rep, Susana Mendoza, our comptroller and the most professional, dedicated and just simply heroic person, and Debbie Ming-Mendoza, our county clerk. These are great people and I’m showing up for them on election day. I’m also voting for JB and Betsy Dirksen-Londrigan.

Which candidates do you care about in this election?

Trunk-or-Treating

I want to be the kind of mom who always signs up for everything and participates in everything, so I put our names down for an activity at Klara’s school called “Trunk-or-treat” where people compete in whose family decorates the best trunk.

The way I imagined it was that people would decorate actual trunks. Like the ones where pirates hide treasure, you know? But it turns out that the activity is a sort of a tailgating (which I also have never done) for toddlers. People park their cars next to the school, open the trunks of their cars – weird, right?- and decorate them from the inside. And put candied apples (wtf is that?) in them.

I have no idea what any of this means and I have until Friday to find out. These school activities are always fun, and this time we have 4 adults there to decorate our trunk, so how bad can it be, right?

Halloween is like the most important holiday around here. We have a Halloween-related social engagement almost every day for over a week.
