Return of Maturity

Are Republicans going to flip out now, organizing resistances, marching with penises on their heads, and wailing that democracy is dead and Nazism (communism, maoism, totalitarianism, vegetarianism, and avian flu) are going to wipe us all out immediately because they lost Congress?

I can’t wait for the shoe finally be on the other foot. I used to so enjoy the feeling of “I support the party of mature adults and not you, crazy infantile clowns!” I want that feeling back.

  1. Well, at least one Republican (me) is very happy with the plans being discussed by the new Democratic congress:

Jerry Nadler, who will head the House Judiciary Committee, is already talking about impeaching Kavanaugh and investigating Trump because Trump dared to dismiss a member of his cabinet (Sessions) right after a mid-term election. Other Democrats are demanding to see Trump’s tax records — Hey, maybe Trump’s not as rich as he claims to be, or took every possible legal loophole to pay as few taxes as possible!! That’s information that American voters are really clamoring to hear!

The Trump re-election committee should be paying the Democrats for all their help!

  2. Those horrible republicans are now threatening the families of people they disagree with politically….. oh not, that’s an angry mob of ‘progressives’ outside Tucker Carlson’s house.
    They are the resistance!

    1. OK, I just googled it. This is absolutely unbelievable. I dislike Carlson, as I was saying just the other day but this is such horrible, shitty thing to do. It’s completely unforgivable whether you do it to Maddow, Krugman, this Acosta guy, Carlson, Coates, anybody.

I don’t even want to believe this.

    1. It’s curious how easily people are recruited to defend neoliberal goals that will hurt them. As I keep saying, unfortunately there is no progressivism that isn’t based entirely on aggressively promoting neoliberalism. Progressive and neoliberal are interchangeable terms.

Do you have an explanation for that?

        1. Neoliberalism is deeply progressive in the most literal sense. It’s all about constant change, constant movement. It doesn’t accept any limits on its free movement, ahead, always ahead. Putting any brakes on this movement is inherently conservative. If you want to save something, anything, from change, if you want to put obstacles in the way of endless change, you are a conservative. This is why almost everybody becomes a conservative with age. Everybody finds something to like in the way things are and doesn’t want to lose them.

            Was traditional Left conservative then?

I thought progressives included, for instance, fighters for workers’ rights. What is the name for positions of traditional Left?

For people for welfare safety nets provided by nation states like Israel or Sweden?

Nah. They were already flipping out when they had both houses of Congress. Also you know when Trump was elected. So, I don’t forsee any change in their behavior.

Too many adults are stuck at some prior developmental stage to have a major party of “mature” adults.

  4. \ I’m not sure what you mean by traditional left. Like the kind that existed in the 1930s or 1960s?

I suppose yes, but it existed before too, no? Like the kind that fought for welfare systems in Scandinavian countries. Like the kind Jack London described in “Martin Eden. “
