And it’s not a minor point, folks. This is the whole essence of liberalism that I discussed this summer in my reviews of Patrick Deneen’s book. Any limitations on the expressions of human desire are offensive and must be rejected. Laws of nature, religious constraints, environmental concerns, human physiology, and the very concept of objective truth fall under the assault of the angry “But I wanna!” emitted by an entitled liberal (aka consumer.)
The locus of God-like power has been displaced from being outside a human being (as in God or nature) towards the inside. This is why liberalism visits its the greatest destruction on religion and nature. They are the competition.
We don’t even question any more why we are supposed to greet with glee any subversion of the laws of nature and any rebellion against the constraints of biology.
