Not Too Bad

The worst part about the Soviet experience is that it was all for nothing. Nobody learned any lessons. The world said to us, “well, that wasn’t too bad. Let’s try that again and again.”

The complete lack of interest in one of the most horrific and tragic experiences of humanity stems from how uncomfortable it is and how it disturbs the inane fantasies of the spoiled brats who rule out imaginations.

  1. “complete lack of interest in one of the most horrific and tragic experiences of humanity”

I thought it was worse, every new failure of socialism* is blamed on the failings of the population it was inflicted upon. “Stupid Russians… stupid Venezuelans… stupid Cubans… stupid Chinese… stupid Cambodians… if only they weren’t so tragically flaed then it would have worked damn it!

It’s very much like a religious obsessions, the doctrine is sound, it’s the human agents who are flawed.

*as opposed to capitalism with a strong welfare state component added a la Scandinavia….

    1. And it’s also the complete betrayal of the progressive mantra that everybody should be able to describe their own experience and taken at their word that it is what it is. We called ourselves the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. But no, it’s not real socialism. Chavez said Venezuela will be socialist. But no, it’s not real socialism. Cubans proudly say they are socialist. But no, they aren’t real socialists.

Why does everyone get to name their experience except for us?
