So I listened to Amy Klobuchar on TV. She sounded quite reasonable and I liked her. She might be a good option.

Problem is, if we couldn’t get the most recognized female politician in the country elected against Trump, what chance do we get with somebody who has zero name recognition? You can beat this kind of obscurity if you are an inspirational leader with phenomenal oratory like Obama. But other than that, I don’t see how she can overcome this.

Fight Back

Oh, the Covington boy is going to sue for defamation! Good for him. And good that he has the kind of parents who are willing to fight for him.

I always wonder why people don’t sue more in these situations. Isn’t this supposed to be a litigious country? A lawyer paradise? Like this young “writer” who withdrew her novel because freaks accused her of being a racist. Why do people just accept the abuse and don’t fight back? I’m not saying sue necessarily, but stand up to the bullies?

Bernie 2.0

Problem is, it’s not the same Bernie Sanders that we saw in 2015. Today’s Bernie has capitulated to the loonie wing and fully embraced identity politics. His whole life he stood for the working classes. But now he’s just stupidly parroting the snowflake dogma. What’s the use of this new version of Bernie?

For now, I’m more hopeful for Elizabeth Warren.

Liquid Capital

Britain’s richest man, the Brexit supporter Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and two of his key lieutenants at chemicals firm Ineos have reportedly been planning to save up to £4bn in tax after moving to Monaco. The company, which is valued at about £35bn, is working with tax experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to create a new structure for the business to dramatically reduce the tax paid on its global revenues, according to the Sunday Times.

Yeah, the plan to tax these folks at 70% will totally work. Back in 1958.

I understand Bernie is not a spring chicken and hasn’t realized that the world has moved on and capitalism entered into a different stage a few decades ago. But what’s the excuse of the younger people who are proposing this? How is it humanly possible to be so thick that you can’t make the connection between the technological revolution that gave you the entirety of your political popularity and the way that the economy was reshaped by those same forces?

The Hoax Side

Just within days, there was a BuzzFeed hoax, the Covington hoax, and the Smollett hoax. And it’s just this particular cluster that happened to occur within days of each other. There were a million and one last year.

It makes me feel like a total idiot to be on the side of the people who angrily, actively and self-righteously promote all these hoaxes because the ridiculous, dumb lies support their screwed up worldview.

And the part about their worldview that bugs me the most is that the people who wield all of the cultural, financial, and informational power insist, hysterically and aggressively, that they are poor, victimized underdogs.

Back to the 1990s

So Jussie Smollett’s racist MAGA attackers actually turned out to be black? The story gets funnier by the second.

Everybody says it’s a throwback to the Tawana Brawley case but to me it’s more like the white paint hoax in New York back in the early nineties. A crime-ridden city wastes a ton of resources and interviews hundreds of people to find the racist attackers who poured white paint on two black and one Hispanic kids threatening to “make them white.” Politicians fall all over themselves to condemn the horrible racists but it turns out this was all a self-serving hoax.

Or an Emory College student who claimed she had bleach poured on her clothes and her stuffed teddy bears were mutilated in a racist attack. There was a wave of outrage, passionate proclamations of condemnation and then…. it turned out she was trying to wiggle out of trouble for cheating on a midterm and concocted the whole thing.

There were a couple more of these fake bleach attacks back then.

This was all in the nineties but it’s clear that some folks are eager to bring the nineties back.

The funny thing is that I was on another continent when it all happened but I know about it and now don’t take any of these bleach stories seriously. I know about these things from watching TV shows and reading many years after they happened. But the people who were here and experienced it all in real time, what’s their excuse for falling for this hoax?
