A New Version

Oh, so now the official snowflake narrative on Smollett is that Chicago PD is pro-Trump and its investigation of the hoax can’t be trusted.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Need Computer Help

Folks, I’m a total blank space in what concerns computers, so I need some help.

I have a new used laptop (new to me but used by the person who gave it to me). It has 10 gigs free of storage. Is this a decent amount or do I need more? I’m not planning to install anything on it or do anything but use MS Office (already installed) and use the internet browser (already installed).

If I need more storage, what do I do? There’s nothing to delete, so do I buy something and stick into the laptop? Yes, I already said I’m a blank slate. But ask me anything about Hispanic literature and you’ll see I’m not an environmental non-event in every aspect of my life.

The laptop is a Cloud Aser, whatever that means. It has 29 gigs but 19 are occupied with system files. I only need it for the most primitive stuff because I already have a super powerful desktop outfitted for me by my husband who is a computer programmer. I don’t want to ask him these questions because like all specialists he’s incapable of answering a simple question about computers without going into an endless lecture that starts from the moment of the creation of the universe. And I just need to know if I’ll be fine with my 10 gigs.

Reality Is Dead

So Martina Navratilova is being hounded for pointing out the painfully obvious, namely:

Letting men compete as women simply if they change their name and take hormones is unfair — no matter how those athletes may throw their weight around.

In order to prove you are faithful to the dogma, you have to be willing to proclaim “Truth is lie! Lie is truth!” and do it sincerely and fanatically. The whole point is that what you believe and what you are ready to kill for should be completely wackadoodle. Because there’s no honor in fanatically defending that 2+2 make 4.

Here is an example from the response Navratilova got:

There is no evidence at all that the average trans woman is any bigger, stronger, or faster than the average cisgender woman.

You’d think they are taking the piss but I’ve had a couple of people defend this idea to me with a fanatical glimmer of religous belief in their eye.

The idea doesn’t matter, though. It’s not about specific beliefs. The only point here is to browbeat everybody into agreeing that objective reality does not exist. Truth does not exist. Nature does not exist. All that exists is a desiring individual whose endless whims need to be satisfied at any cost to reality, truth, or nature.

Privatized Censorship

Here is a very long, yet very important, post on how censorship works.

For those who have no time to read: a guy who moderated a huge (and overwhelmingly liberal) forum on culture wars was driven into a nervous breakdown by progressive right-fighters who believe that anybody whose opinions depart an inch from the progressive dogma is a Nazi and has to be eviscerated.

The interesting thing is that there is no government involvement anywhere in the story. Censorship, like most of the state’s functions, has been completely privatized. There is no coercive power at all here. People are destroying the existence of free speech – a right which was unattainable for centuries and only historically recently became a reality – on their own and for the simple reason that this is what they want to do. Also, of course, it’s useful to capital.

The neoliberal model is predicated on a minimalist state – withdrawal of the state from the process of economic and social see development and its replacement with the ‘free market.’ (Petras and Veltmeyer 241).

The reason I can’t get over the Covington debacle and the Smollett hoax is all the folks who immediately jumped on the bandwagon and supported both media campaigns.

Because I think they are sincere. They honestly believe this is what the world is like. They really despise us this much. They truly think we are feral animals and they are superior, godlike beings.

Smollett wasn’t trying to con me or you. He was conning – and quite successfully at first – people who inhabit a completely different reality and who think we are icky critters.

They sit in those Twitter and FB fester holes and rile themselves up to believe we are a threat to them.

When reality is the exact opposite.
