9/11

The cartoon is stunning but it’s not really true. Nobody’s attention span is that long. From past experience, I know that the few people who will mention 9/11 in my blogroll will do so to make some tepid partisan gesture.

I wasn’t in this country when it happened and had no plans at all to become an American but I still remember how stunned I was by the vicious reaction of some people I knew to the tragedy of 9/11.

What do you mean by “vicious reaction” here. Among the people I associate with, the reaction was, and remains when we think of it, horror, and an attempt to comprehend it. Maybe It was different for those of us who had visited the observation deck at the top of one of the towers.

    1. I came class that day (I was a student), and my professor was gleefully telling us how Americans finally got what they deserved. I had no idea what was happening because I had overslept. The whole class was a celebration of the attack. When I finally found out what was being celebrated, I was stunned and horrified.

            1. I also want to add that Canada has a very generous and open immigration policy. I benefited from it, so I love it. But the downside of it – and everything has a downside – is that you get a lot of people who perceive things very differently from you. For them, the tragedy of Americans is not a tragedy of brothers and sisters but a bad thing that happened to your enemy.

              Everything comes at a cost.

Of viciousness: The fact we were at war within a month. The first reported hate crime? <a href=”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Falwell#September_11_attacks”

Falwell and Roberston running their mouths. I think some Palestinians dancing
    in jubilation on tv.

So many replays of the towers exploding.
