On Sunday, we are going to look for a grounding object. It’s a very good idea to have a collection of little objects that remind you of a happy, tranquil moment. Here is one of mine:
I enjoyed my time in Germany last year immensely, and whenever I hold this pen from the hotel where I stayed, I can summon the feeling of being exactly who I want to be.
Once you identify your grounding objects, you can carry one with you into all situations where you are likely to feel tense, diminished, anxious, or unhappy. The moment unpleasantness begins, you discretely take out the grounding object, and transport yourself to a peaceful state of mind.
I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and I have a whole collection of these objects. Obviously, many lose their power over time but I replenish the collection. It’s always something little that gives me a good feeling when I hold it.
