The Talk

Lest people think I’ve already died of coronavirus, I’m not posting because I’m giving a talk on El Salvador today, and I’m bringing Klara, so it takes a lot of management.

I lost my fear of coronavirus after watching an interview with a woman who’s been quarantined. She says a quarantined person is locked up in complete isolation and only sees other human beings twice a day when they bring food. That sounds paradisiacal right now.

    1. Being a physician is not a guarantee of mental health. To the contrary, it’s a high-risk profession for mental consequences because there’s a lot of stress.

Americans, you know? Tucker Carlson is going full-on apocalyptic with the coronavirus and I can’t even imagine what our more excitable friends on MSNBC are saying.

  1. Was reading Dreher and saw a link to “January 31 piece by Laurie Garrett in Foreign Policy. She’s probably the foremost science journalist writing about pandemics.” This is what Trump’s opponents should be talking about, not Trump’s racism and sexism.

\ Trump Has Sabotaged America’s Coronavirus Response

In 2018, the Trump administration fired the government’s entire pandemic response chain of command, including the White House management infrastructure.

Except that they don’t let you have a computer or phone or books (or they have to incinerate the books just after you read them).
The only diversion allowed is a TV set permanently to a channel showing science fiction movies (that like soviet radios can’t really be turned off).

  3. Another misanthrope! As an aside, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the phenomenon of obvious misanthropes (Warren, Bernie, Hillary, etc.) going into politics, the most “people profession” career of them all.
