Have We Been Played?

I think that it’s time to start discussing the reaction to COVID in terms of its contribution to the austerity project.

The U of Ohio announced the other day that it’s firing TT professors. Yes, it’s starting with the really stupid fields that everybody hates and the administration is claiming that the firings are not entirely caused by COVID. Still, it’s a fact that the firings are happening and they are being partially justified by COVID.

My colleagues are, as of this minute, editing a request for a new tenure-track hire. Bless their souls, I think they are crazeeeee. We will all be lucky to keep our jobs given what’s coming. Our state will be absolutely ruined and all sorts of austerity will be inflicted on us. And we will accept it because it will be done under the name of COVID.

The Worked Shoot

I’m starting to get the idea that some governments (okay, just about all of them) are instrumentalizing Coronavirus (however dangerous it is) to reinforce and strengthen austerity. This isn’t the end of austerity but its final victory as most societies are ruthlessly third-worlded.

All the stories about how much better the air is? How the animals are now frolicking in the cities without those bothersome people? Religious leaders and bubblebrained celebrities talking about messages from the Earth or God?

The economy isn’t going to restart because they’re shutting it down on purpose – to the cheers of too many suckers. Healthcare and infrastructure will be gutted and more and more people will be permanently unemployed surviving (or not) on charity as governments and the Greens preen.

I’d like to be wrong about this, I’d love it. But the evidence is mounting and obligatory austerity (no more fun travel or discretionary…

What Does the CDC Have to Say?

We flattened and reversed the curve 4-5 weeks ago. Emergency rooms haven’t been at risk of being overwhelming for 4-5 weeks.

The screenshot is from the CDC.

The CDC website is fascinating, by the way. Did you know, for instance, that the CDC stopped counting flu deaths 6 weeks earlier than normally? That is, precisely when the emergency room visits started to go down. Maybe there’s another explanation to this phenomenon than the need to manufacture evidence to justify lockdowns but I don’t know what it can be.

Currently, the CDC has one joint number for mortality from COVID, flu and pneumonia. This isn’t a conspiracy. This is right there on the CDC site. That number of 63,000 deaths, who knows what it would be if the flu were counted separately.

Does the CDC know? I don’t really think so.

Good News from NorKo

Turns out Kim Jong-un isn’t dead. He’s been in an eating binge, that’s all.

Look up his photos from yesterday if you don’t believe me. The poor guy is twice as fat as he was before.

I’m glad we won’t have to put up with any moralistic croaking about how North Korea is superior to the US because it has a female leader. For now.

Not Eunuchs

I’m so tired of reading about how “the violence of the conquest” (by Spaniards, obviously) caused this and that. Yes, the conquest was very violent. But how about the violence the day before the conquest? The month before? The year before?

The indigenous cultures found by the Spaniards were extremely violent. Because human beings are extremely violent. The only new factor that the Spaniards brought is a new kind of infectious disease. And we all know from our COVID experience that it’s absolutely beyond the pale to even notice when somebody does this. Viruses have no nationality, right?

I strongly suspect that if the Aztecs (just as an example. The Aztecs weren’t even the most violent among the indigenous) knew that we don’t remember them as fierce, terrifying warriors but as pathetic little eunuchs, they’d gladly whoop our asses.
