Asian Hornets

CNN reports:

Asian giant hornets have been spotted in the United States, scientists say. At more than two inches long, they’re the world’s largest hornets with a sting that can kill humans if bitten multiple times. Researchers have nicknamed them “murder hornets.”

How long before we hear that it’s racist to call the hornets Asian? And CNN’s Jim Acosta will start every White House briefing with, “some people say that your constant use of the expression ‘Asian hornets’ is an invitation for white supremacists to murder Asians. How would you respond to that?”

  1. As the original report doesn’t even seem to understand the difference between a bite (hornets don’t bite people) and a sting, I would give it little credence. Hornets, like some other wasps and some bees, can sting people, but all of them would prefer not to have to so, it wastes their energy and resources and in the case of honey bees, it kills them. My advice in most circumstances would be, just leave them alone!
