Why Do We Allow This?

I highly recommend this piece on how public schools in British Columbia abuse small children. Teachers who protest are fired. Parents aren’t allowed to object.

“What if I don’t FEEL the way I LOOK?” followed by a girl wanting to play hockey/play with trucks. Our children are being taught regressive sex stereotypes. In 2020! I was the little girl who played hockey and played with trucks, in the 80s/90s. No one EVER said I was a boy!

I am heartbroken for this generation of children, who are victims of the horseshoe effect: We got so progressive we are now regressing. I am also angry as hell that my provincial gov’t won’t let me opt out of this. I will opt out. You cannot force this on my children.

Here is a serious question. The number of people who really think that if a girl likes to play hockey this means she’s really a boy is minuscule. I don’t think it’s even 0.5%. Nobody thinks this. Nobody wants this. Yet it’s been accepted as a dogma to the point where it’s forced on kids.

How do we always end up in a place where a tiny number of unhealthy, unstable people get to dictate to us?

And please, folks, don’t say homeschooling. Why should I destroy my career, take a huge financial hit, rearrange my life simply because the public services paid for with my taxes have been hijacked by a bunch of insane freaks?

  1. Did anyone tell these people that they are anti-feminists? What kind of weird sexist stereotypes are they advocating? If a girl wants to play hockey she must be a boy… Jeesus…

    1. Drives me nuts. I spent half my life hearing how I’m not really a girl because I’m too logical, too bookish, too strong. And now it turns out I’ve got to accept this as gospel? It’s really offensive to me.

  2. Amen. I’ve always hated “girl clothes”. I flatly refuse to wear heels, pantyhose, makeup, hairspray, jewelry, rhinestones, ruffles, or any of that fiddly crap. I was a voracious SF reader, in my school days. I have on occasion done my own car/house/computer repairs. I am not a dude, and I don’t want to be one. I LIKED the old feminist thing where you can be whatever kind of woman you want– you don’t have to let everybody else tell you what’s “womanly” and what’s not. You can be an astronaut! Or a mechanic! Or whatever! Remember that? Can we bring that back?

I suppose the problem with changing attitudes away from what’s traditional, is that they are like as not to keep right on changing, long after they’ve reached, and passed, the spot you were aiming for. Tradition is stability.

  3. hot take time: The main goal of the transgender movement is to make women girly again. The metamessage is: if you women don’t stop intruding into male spaces (work, math, sports) we’ll intrude into your space.
