Campus Policing

In the meantime, our college administration is ordering us to call police on anybody who appears on campus without a mask. If we don’t do it, we will be “sent home without pay.” This is a literal quote. All sorts of quips about being sent to bed without dinner and “sir, may I have more gruel?” come to mind.

But this isn’t very funny. It is even less funny that the same professors who spent the weekend posing for pics in the allowed and encouraged protests against policing are aggressively and I’d even say hysterically embracing this instance of excessive policing.

What happens if your dog ate your phone?
What happens if your battery has no charge?
What happens if your phone fell on the street and broke whilst you were taking a knee to wash the feet of BLM activists?
What happens if the police have been defunded and so there are no police left to answer the phone?

  2. What do you do if the person not wearing a mask is Black and wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt? Still call the police?

    1. Given that we have a sizeable African American student body, this is a very pertinent question.

There’s more. What if I’m aware that a student is an undocumented immigrant? What kind of a bastard will I be if I hand the student over to the police?

And let’s imagine a wonderful effect this will have on the rest of the students who will be watching police drag their classmates out of the classroom.

This is a recipe for disaster.
