Children and COVID

In Iceland, a stunning percentage of the population was tested for coronavirus, and this is what was found:

Children under 10 are less likely to get infected than adults and if they get infected, they are less likely to get seriously ill. What is interesting is that even if children do get infected, they are less likely to transmit the disease to others than adults. We have not found a single instance of a child infecting parents.

This is, of course, one of a dozen sources that say exactly the same: there’s no evidence that children transmit, let alone get seriously ill. There are no studies I’ve seen that show children do transmit, although it should be harder to prove a negative. Yet people go batshit crazy if you mention any of this science. Really unhinged and scary. Question: who got them this way and for what purpose?

To me, the answer is clear. This is a convenient way to get them to beg for their welfare (free schooling) to be taken away. And it works.

  1. I keep waiting for the school districts to start laying off teachers, aides, custodians, etc… but it might not happen until September, in states where they don’t want to reopen schools. In most districts, you don’t pay the teachers during the summer OR they are paid on an adjusted schedule so that they get reduced paychecks during the school year, and keep getting paid through the summer– which means if they’re still getting paid now, it’s for last school year. As a strategic move, that’s cruel– those people need to know now, so they can start looking for other jobs! August is when the rubber meets the road. You don’t need teacher’s aides for online classes. You don’t need bus drivers, or music teachers, or art teachers, or gym coaches, or lunch ladies, or hall monitors…

    1. These are the people nobody ever cares about.

It’s really maddening what’s going on. It doesn’t concern me personally – my kid’s in daycare and I can fake working from home pretty convincingly anyway – but there are people whose livelihoods will be devastated by this. And nobody cares.
