Profits Don’t Matter

In June and July, Fox News was the highest-rated television channel in the prime-time hours of 8 to 11 p.m. Not just on cable. Not just among news networks. All of television. The average live Fox News viewership in those hours outstripped cable rivals like CNN, MSNBC and ESPN, as well as the broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC, according to Nielsen.

In June and July, there was absolutely no other place on television or in the press to hear the truth about the riots and the COVID-mania. People want to see their daily reality on the news. Truth sells.

But all these news companies are willingly sacrificing profit in service of ideology. I wish it were about money but it’s so much worse than that.

  1. “But all these [non-Fox] news companies are willingly sacrificing profit in service of ideology.”

    While you’re watching Fox news:

Get used to seeing endless repetitions of a small group of commercial advertisers who are sticking with Fox News despite the backlash, because of either profit or genuine belief in that networks’ conservative ethos — such as the annoying but always sincere “My Pillow” guy (who overcame a severe drug addiction to find religion and become a hugely successful businessman), and the condescending LeafFilter pitchman who always asks geriatric old home owners, “Do you still [stupidly risk your lives] climbing ladders to clean your gutters instead of installing our permanent gutter leaf filter?” And Pat Boone, of course, who will continue to advertise walk-in tubs and rub-on pain relief salves until he’s a hundred years old.

Fox’s left-wing competitors gleefully claim that Fox News is hurting because some prominent but cowardly companies have pulled their ads from “controversial” shows like Tucker. But as long as Fox remains the only reliable source of truthful, uncensored news about the major events going on in America and the world, intelligent advertisers will “follow the money” and continue to support the network.

So cut the endlessly repetitive advertisers with their multiple commercials per hour some slack. They’re just trying to make a buck, but they’re also patriots helping to keep Fox News on the air.
