A Course in Dictatorship

Just as I prepare to start my course on Latin American dictatorships, the US suspends democracy and cancels freedom of speech. So now anything I say in class will sound political. Which I really don’t want to do.

Imagine how different the phrase, “today most Latin America is democratic and free” will sound compared to a few months ago.

It sure feels strange to teach about dictatorships as we get a crash course in how they work.
