I can’t imagine using the words “a special treat” with anybody who is not a child. This cloying, infantilizing language is very common on the left, and I detest it.

Suffering succotash! Every time I see one of those, I chafe at living in a rental house. It is so far past time we had our own parcel to raise small livestock on. Given the familial T2D, the only way I’m gonna live to see my kids to adulthood without meat is if I only eat once a week. They have clearly decided that T2Ds are a drain on resources, and they want to kill us all.

If that were not the case, of course, they’d be campaigning for cheap insulin, like Trump, so that we could all become virtuous vegetarians.

My child has severe food allergies. Meat is an irreplaceable necessity for us. Our ability to raise our own livestock is exactly zero. All the talk about rationing meat is making me very nervous.

I will never forget the experience of eating fake meat (‘impossible burger’). There’s something so bad in that thing that I’m very sure anybody who eats it regularly will be a chronic medical patient.

Oh, but eating industrial waste-products is so much more virtuous than killing something and eating its flesh! Surely you don’t mind a little chemical aftertaste, when it means not killing fluffy bunnies!

Those who are behind the rationing are usually edible, at least once you get past the notion of “moral hazard” and deal with the actual disease hazard directly.
I’ve given this some thought and it came to me that since the current pestilence in fashion manifests itself a lot like a prion disease, complete with amyloid plaques or Lewy bodies, we’d need a really good pressure cooker to sort this out in practice.
But what I’m not clear on is whether the disgust at the idea is a result of people naturally sensing that a line that should never be crossed may in fact be crossed in one of Agamben’s “states of exception”, or whether it’s covertly a form of fear that these people may wind up in the pressure cooker because they may in fact deserve that fate.
So please feel free to rustle some jimmies with my Modest Proposal.

One of my kids is quite allergic to peanuts and related plants like peas and soy. That means no meat substitutes are an option for him. WTF is he supposed to eat?

All of that, plus add to it eggs, wheat and milk. We are lucky meat is an option and it definitely is a staple of our everyday diet. It is not simply replaceable by something else.

Yeah, my son can’t have eggs either. Meat it really a critical source of protein for him.
I hate this attitude where meat is basically morally bankrupt / sinful to eat, while plants are virtuous and holy, even though plenty of people are allergic to plenty of plants and meat allergies are relatively uncommon. (There is some deeper, weird, quasireligious undercurrent here relating sin and animal flesh.)

It’s basic Protestant neo-gnosticism, IMO. Everything to do with flesh and the body is evil. Salvation is distancing ourselves from all that dirty, earthly stuff like, you know, sweating, eating, and making babies. We should all strive to become pure beings by avoiding contamination…
Good luck with that commune of effeminate obsessive-compulsive germphobes. Can I drop by on bathroom-cleaning day with a camera, just for funsies?
Coincidentally and anecdotally, I’ve heard that since the whole covid business started and we decided collectively to nurture all the latent contamination-phobias out there, the incidence of sidewalk dog poop is way up.

Perhaps those with allergies to plant food will be generously allowed access to the insect-based proteins. I heard grasshoppers are very nutritious. Let’s hope they are not allergic to those as well.

Seafood allergies are common, and I understand that people who are allergic to shellfish are frequently also allergic to insects. Most never have an opportunity to find that out, but I suppose we’ll all know a lot more about it in our insect-protein future.

I’m not T2D but I don’t feel well if I don’t eat a good chunk of meat once a day at least. And their take on meat is based on lies/bad ag practices.

All of a sudden, everybody uses the word “treat,” and it drives me nuts. I’m trying to teach my 5-year-old to abandon it because eeew.

But Clarissa! It’s almost Halloween! If Klara can’t say “treat” she can’t say “trick or treat!”

We went to a trunk or treat on Saturday, and I tried to encourage Klara to get some candy.
“I’m not here for the candy, mommy!” she announced severely. “I’m here to see my friends.” :-))

The oh-so-edgy, rebellious, “dirtbag left” is very into calling basic amenities “treats” nowadays. Another example of how most American “socialists” are not meaningfully different from Bill Clinton.

Soon, the 3 hours of electricity you have during the day will be a “special treat”.

Local politicians in my area just announced that vaccinated people will get the “reward” of being permitted to quarantine at home instead of in a quarantine facility.
I don’t talk to toddlers that way because of the effect it can have on their mental development, yet these morons make public announcements that way.

I know, which is why I don’t write very much back. It’s best not to let those kinds of people know what you’re planning imo. Nothing illegal btw.

I first heard “treats” in the current meaning a couple of years ago on Chapo Trap House (possibly in reference to Kevin Williamson’s…. appearance).
It is interesting that it’s the establishment response to looming shortages…

Correction, now I’m pretty sure it was in reference to the infamous John Podhoretz Schnippers Hamburger meltdown…. (there’s a reason smart people have looked down on ‘conservatives’ like that large infant).

Obviously the woke WEF haven’t dealt with deer overpopulation. They are practically begging hunters to kill the overabundance of deer in the suburbs of St. Louis. Not only are they getting aggressive (and they aren’t small like rodents), they eat the gardens of people trying to grow vegetables. This post literally makes me envision a world where starving humans stand around watching fat beasts eat all their produce. This idea is madness! And the people peddling it obviously are gaming for population reduction.
One need only think the idea through to its logical conclusion. What does a world with an overabundance of animals look like? Can we even begin to imagine the smell from excess dung alone? Unless they propose putting all the animals on birth control. But that’s a whole other topic for a different day.

I do not believe the WEF crowd cares about the animals in particular or environment in general. It is just a convenient tool to use to control people. “Be a good person! Do this for the environment!” It will simply result in a bunch of people feeling virtuous while following irrational mandates of the elite that is using them.
