Cause and Effect

Our genius administrators decided to eliminate graduate assistantships to save money. Graduate assistants get a tuition waiver, and the administrators thought that if we don’t offer them, students will pay full tuition.

We tried to explain that applicants choose the most competitive package when deciding where to apply. If you don’t offer a tuition waiver, people don’t go to graduate school. Even Harvard doesn’t charge for graduate studies. And we are not Harvard.

The administrators scoffed at us in loud, obnoxious ways and eliminated half of all graduate assistantships.

Then the graduate enrollment dropped off a cliff.

Now the same administrators are sending us long, desperate missives asking us why our graduate school is disappearing.

All the administrators involved in this scheme are extremely woke. This cluelessness of theirs is a result of that. They sincerely believe that human beings are blank slates and interchangeable widgets. They think they can engineer people’s behavior into pleasing results. And it never works because humans are more complicated than that and have agency. But the poor darn fools never learn.

The Hunter Drama

To be fair to all sides, this big drama over Biden being on Hunter’s business calls is as big a load of inconsequential BS as today’s Trump indictments.

If people assumed that Biden would do something for them and rolled out the cash to Hunter as a result, it’s completely on them. Hunter is trash. Those bribe-givers are absolute trash. But unless it’s proven that Biden a) asked for money and b) did something in return, this is all baloney.

Both Trumpers and Bidenites respond to these points with an insulted “But doesn’t it matter that he lied???”

No, it doesn’t. People lie. Get over it. It’s a sign of being stuck at the mental age of 6 to be so upset over lies.

More Trump Indictments

This most recent Trump indictment is so ludicrous that it’s actually funny. Fraud? Civil rights violations? I mean, this is really embarrassing.

Notice that nobody is indicting Trump on inciting the Jan 6 riot. There’s even less evidence of that than of civil rights violations.

This is all a cringe-worthy show.

Mind you, I’m not saying it for partisan reasons. I won’t be voting for Trump in the primary. I’m voting for Mike Pence. But it’s funny to me how people gin themselves up over these silly indictments when even the people who bring them don’t take them seriously.

Tiny Steps

Remember what I said: tiny little steps that are easy to ignore.

The Coup in Niger

Well, given that the mobs were waiving Russian flags during the coup, that was kind of obvious.

Latin Americans should be really upset that even Russia chose Africans over them. Mexico’s López Obrador is toadying to Russians like crazy but they are pretending he doesn’t exist.

But wait, there’s more

I’m posting this in small increments to give people a chance to process.

In what concerns that form where you have 9 different categories, I have to fill out 3 of them at once. One records my work as department Chair, another as a professor, and the third the work I do in course development.

So I will now have to remember what I put in those 3 forms with 9 categories in each and tailor the daily timesheets to coincide with the original 3 forms.

Fun!

More on Timesheets

Here’s an added wrinkle to the story about the timesheets that are now required of all professors.

We already report how many hours a week we work. It’s done 3 times a year, and it’s broken up by activity. There are 8 or 9 categories of work and you put in hours for each. So now you have to remember exactly what you put in that form and tailor the new daily reporting so that it corresponds to the other reporting. Got it?

Me neither.

It’s all nutso-boom-boom of the highest order.

Contemptuous Cheerleaders

For this extraordinary cluelessness and cruelty alone, we should vote these bastards out.

Biden and Trump caused the recession together. Biden has done some to improve things. But for anybody to claim that people’s savings aren’t being wiped out by inflation is the height of contempt.

In the USSR we were also always told that our economy was super duper amazing. And it also felt insulting.

The Return of Civilization

Extremely proud of Israel, US and Romania:

Are the civilized countries of the world finally recovering their cojones? Are they finally losing the fear of dumb, pathetic Russia?

All it takes not to be a terrified little weasel is to decide not to be one. Let’s hope this is a turnaround point for us.

In One Word

How would you describe yourself to someone?

I did a word count, and I’m 1,500 words behind the goal I originally set myself. Those 1,500 words are exactly the number I had to write for another project that cropped up unexpectedly. So yeah, I’m completely on target.

The word I’d use to describe myself is: maniacal.
