Brain Disease

Oprah is a billionaire who is using her media reach to support her preferred candidate in the election. This is exactly what Elon Musk is doing. Either both are despicable for doing it, or neither is.

Partisanship is a brain disease.

Not Word Soup

Kamala is known for her word soup but this particular statement is great. She doesn’t mean any of it and has spent a lifetime trying to achieve the exact opposite but the statement itself is clear and good. There were moments in the program where Kamala did the word soup thing but this isn’t one of them.

Do people who make such posts count on nobody listening to the actual video?

A P. Diddy Question

Can somebody explain why P Diddy was arrested? I don’t need links. I read the links. And I still have no idea what the crimes were. Is it hiring prostitutes for others? Or what? “Sex trafficking” stands for pimping because pimping is now a bad word, or something, and needs a synonym. So did he hire the prostitutes? Or the opposite? Did he rent them or rent them out?

Journalism has become complete crap because articles go on and on but nothing is ever explained. I read that he “manipulated, lured and allegedly wielded his power to persuade” women to have sex. None of this sounds criminal. Then I read time and again that he had a thousand bottles of baby oil. Which also isn’t a crime.

I’m not a fan or anything. I have zero interest in defending this guy. I simply want to understand what happened.

Comment Section Update

Folks, I can’t keep track of all the Anonymouses any more, especially when people can’t be bothered to put a random name or initial to help us identify who said what. Please try to comment and tell me if it’s gotten better or worse.

P.S. When it says “enter an email”, it can be a fake email, nobody cares. Just something to keep track of who said what because it’s gotten very confusing.

On the Other Side

I took a peek at the leftist social media, and weird things are going on there. Everybody is discussing a woman who died because she couldn’t get an abortion. Even though she did have an abortion. And died as a result of the abortion. But somehow her very tragic death from an abortion is still evidence that she died because she couldn’t get an abortion. Which she did get.

I left 5 minutes into the experiment because that’s too much crazy.

Auschwitz Memorial

I’m subscribed to the Twitter account of Auschwitz Memorial that posts photos of Jews murdered during the Holocaust. Every time I scroll through my feed and see one of those faces, I jump up because they look like my relatives.

It’s a Cult

I don’t even know what to say to this level of complete delusion. It’s sad and scary to see people anaesthetize themselves with these ridiculous slogans.

Wrong Feelings

There was a colleague who really detested me. And the feeling was completely mutual. There was no specific reason for this dislike. She never did anything to me, nor I to her. We just couldn’t stand each other. In the 11 years we worked together, we barely exchanged half a dozen full sentences. I could see her roll her eyes whenever I passed her by in the hallways. This was a decade of strong shared dislike based on the vague feeling that we were completely different people.

During COVID we ended up having to talk. We were the only two faculty members who showed up every day, so we were forced to work together. It was very uncomfortable at first. But then we both realized that each of us was the other’s dream work partner. We complemented each other perfectly. We finished each other’s sentences. We communicated with a look, a half smile, and together we achieved an enormous lot. We started hanging out socially, and it turned out that we could have a lot of fun together.

Our initial feelings about each other were wrong. Feelings can be wrong. Instincts, hunches, and perceptions can be completely ass-backwards wrong. I have no idea when this noxious belief that feelings are sacred and should never be questioned arose but it’s dumb. Anything can and should be questioned.

My colleague is now retired and we are great friends still. I miss her at work every day and realize how stupid it was to have wasted a decade where we could have been doing things together over a dumb feeling.

Drug Overdose Deaths Go Down

“While the mortality data for 2024 is incomplete and subject to change, Ohio is now in the ninth consecutive month of a historic and unexpected drop in overdose deaths,” said the organization Harm Reduction Ohio in a statement.

Missouri is seeing a similar trend that appears to be accelerating. After dropping by 10 percent last year, preliminary data shows drug deaths in the state have now fallen roughly 34 percent in the second quarter of 2024.

It’s not just these states. Drug overdose deaths have experienced somewhat of a decline nationwide. They are still sky-high compared to 2019, though:

The COVID damage to the social fabric seems to be healing bit by bit. Of course, it’s also true that there’s a limited number of people capable of dying of a drug overdose, and many of them were wiped out in the preceding few years. The linked article is written in a weirdly gushy tone but there’s a terrible tragedy hiding behind these numbers.

Different POWs

Russian POWs look nothing of the kind after returning from captivity in Ukraine.

I’m not posting the really hardcore images to spare people’s sensibilities.

Don’t let childish contrarianism erase the evidence that’s right in front of you. Civilization versus barbarity is a conflict that always existed and it exists in our times, too.
