At the Bernabéu in Madrid today, people raised the flag of Ceuta in solidarity with the victims:

I will not go into detail here because I have an early flight to catch, but I’ll simply say that this is a big deal. Once you’ve got the support of the soccer fans at the Bernabéu, it’s a really big deal. Madrid is not abandoning the ceutíes.

Soccer fans are actually amazing. Back in 2014, it was the soccer fans in my native city of Kharkiv who beat back an invasion attempt by the Russians. When I say “beat back,” I mean that literally.

Nation-states will be saved by sports fans.
