Latin Americans had terrible dictatorships in the 20th century. Horrific, brutal dictatorships. But Latin Americans aren’t doing any reckoning with what actually happened. They have attached to the idea that the United States is to blame for the dictatorships and will now pout for the rest of eternity about that. The participation of the USSR in the Cold War and in the chaos and dysfunction that called forth the dictatorships has been completely written out of history.

The obsession with the dictatorships is so profound that every Hispanic studies program in existence teaches its own course on the novel of Latin American dictatorship. I teach this course in my program. But the story is, unavoidably, “this is what the evil U.S. did to poor, innocent us for absolutely no reason whatsoever.”

That’s why there’s no moving on from it. 99.999% of Latin American intellectuals are abjectly and pathetically Putinoid because of this.

    1. This is unsurprising, I’ve never even encountered a black woman who supports Clancy, let alone a black man.
    2. It’s wildly inappropriate to expose the identity of other jurors against their will.

I actually wish somebody explained the pro-Clancy position to me. I don’t watch cable news or access TikTok, so I have no idea what the narrative even is.

From a legal perspective, the law in Massachusetts on criminal insanity is bizarrely liberal; the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was sane when the crime occurred. I didn’t watch the trial, perhaps the prosecution failed to do this. I’m obviously on the side of the one rather than the 11, but those jurors aren’t necessarily crazy. They wouldn’t have to be confident that Clancy was sufficiently sane, just unsure that she was.

As far as the laywomen go, the saner chunk think she had postpartum psychosis. A wrong but at least understandable opinion. The crazier group think things like “the husband did it,” that Clancy is exonerated by her astrological sign, etc. Funny video on this:

I have to say that the right-wingers’ joy that their opinion was validated by a Black Man is getting very cringe. The holdout juror is in the right, I support him. But it doesn’t matter that he’s black. It doesn’t make his opinion more valuable.

People’s brains have been so eaten by the propaganda that even on the right “black” is a badge of honor.

Yes. It is a bit funny to see how hypocritical the left gets when anti-racism and defending a murderess conflict, but I have seen enough bad “based black juror” AI edits to last a lifetime.

    Why would you do that?
