The left will never achieve anything useful because leftists bastardize every good cause that they chance upon. Here is an example.

This weekend there is a big protest in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol, inspired by the plight of Maricarmen, an 89-year-old woman who was evicted from the place in which she had lived for over 70 years. In principle, I support the idea of the protest. There is absolutely a way to ensure that Maricarmen can stay in the apartment she’s used to. But the protest itself immediately turned into standard leftist lunacy.

The biggest banner at the protest demands “Free high-quality housing for everybody.” This blog’s readers are not clinical morons, so I will not explain why this is a stupid demand. The country’s leading political parties actually proposed a way to legislate against what happened to Maricarmen, but the left denounced them because their proposal was not ambitious enough and was not going to provide everybody with free housing. Once again, a real solution drowned in the sea of ridiculous, infantile fantasies.

What’s worse, there isn’t a single Spanish flag at the protest. Instead, there are several Palestinian flags. The only entity that can defend Maricarmen’s right to stay in the apartment where she has lived for over seven decades is the national government. But it has to be specifically retirees like Maricarmen, Spanish citizens who have lived their whole life in Spain. This can only be done under Spanish flags and with a government that clearly understands that it exists to serve Spanish citizens. Unless there is a return to the nation-state model of governmentality, welfare protections are going to disappear, and everybody’s standard of living is going to deteriorate. There is no other place you can find them that is not the nation-state.

The stench at the protest was unbearable. The Left is notoriously resistant to basic hygiene. But the funny thing is that I didn’t see anybody at the protest who was not extremely Spanish. Nobody who is not Spanish cares about Maricarmen. If only the protesters could understand that. If only they could see that they are all part of a family, bound together by history, culture, tradition, and blood.

I’ve been to two bookstores today, and in each, I saw a large number of books about the Spanish Civil War, Franco, and the Transition. And I don’t know how to explain to well-meaning leftist Spaniards that nobody in the whole world cares about their civil war, their Franco, or their Transition. Nobody cares about their Maricarmen. Nobody in the Third World, of which they are so enamored, comes out waving Spanish flags in support of Spaniards.

Did you see Spanish republican flags among the sea of Palestinian flags?

Not one. These are mostly young people. Although I did see a tiny group of retirees.

Wow. I am so outdated in my progressiveness that it scares me.

As James Lindsay said: the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution…

As for Marcarmen, my assumption has always been that the owners want to clear her out so they can put a bunch of Ceuta migrants in that the government will pay for.

Talking about migrants. Yesterday, as soon as I got out of the cab in front of my building, there was a barefoot, mentally disturbed black man running around and screaming threats at passersby: “I’m going to rob you. I’m going to kill you.” Thankfully, the Latin Americans who were standing in front of the building called the police because I was lugging a suitcase and a backpack and wouldn’t have been able to run away.

Today, I experienced two separate occasions of African men seeing me and putting their hands down their pants to wiggle their penises at me.

I’ve seen more women in burkas yesterday and today than even in Montreal. I haven’t visited Spain in exactly a year, and things have definitely gone downhill in this sense.
