It’s a sign of a sucky marriage that the dad is so excluded from parenting and the mom is not trying to integrate him. Aside from that, the childish affect in an adult man and a father (“obsessed, made-up rules, fiercely against it, we left anyway”) is very unappealing. He keeps battling his own mommy in the person of his wife, and this is very tiresome.
Our child is in bed at 7:30 on school nights and 8:30 on weekends. This is not for us because, at this age, she can play by herself and does not need to be entertained by us all the time. It’s for her. When she doesn’t get enough sleep, she’s cranky, tired, and unhappy. Before I had a child, I didn’t understand this either, but how it is humanly possible to be a parent and not have figured this out is mystifying.
