Denying Reality

Do you know how many peace talks Ukraine held with Russia between 2014 and 2022?

Almost 200.

Do you know how many ceasefires were signed in that period of time?

Twenty.

Do you know how many out of these ceasefires were violated by Russia immediately upon signing?

Twenty.

Denying reality and trying to live in a fantasy is always a mistake. But the problem is that we have convinced ourselves that words can change reality, so we operate with magic incantations, hoping they would change what actually exists.

Politico, Anyone?

For the people who kept telling me to take Politico seriously as a source of information . .  .

. . . my message is, fuck you.

P.S. AP did the same thing with the same purpose of sowing the “WWIII” panic, so fuck them also.

Maybe They Won’t Notice Us

The Chinese vessel NewNew Polar Bear destroyed the undersea gas pipeline Balticconnector between Finland & Estonia last year

Yesterday, the Chinese vessel Yi Peng destroyed 2 telecom cables connecting Finland-Germany & Sweden-Lithuania.

The West can’t pretend nothing is going on.

Oh, yes, it can and it will because it’s well-known that pretending a problem doesn’t exist is the best way to solve it.

Sociability Collapse

We had a big event at the student center today. Activities, games, prizes, music, dancing, free food. I’m one of the organizers, and I can confidently say that it was a great success.

One thing strikes me as curious, though. About 90% of students who came up, struck up conversations, played the games, laughed, won prizes, socialized, etc were international students. And we aren’t a mega attractive destination for international students. It’s not that we have an enormous crowd of them. We have many, many more American students. And they were there but kind of skulking in the background, not approaching, not participating.

We are experiencing a collapse of sociability post-COVID. These American students are hard-working, honest, bright. But they didn’t get to socialize freely in their formative years, and the result is there. Nobody discusses this except people in education because we see it every day. It’s a serious problem, and let nobody claim otherwise.

A New Term for Men

I found a very inventive way to refer to men and I have to share it.

Prepare yourselves.

No, please, really prepare yourselves.

It’s this:

people who are not vaginally presenting

To see an actual real-life example of usage, please go here.

Liberal Tears

Guess who’s going on in two days with an episode called “Liberal Tears”?

Yes, that’s me.

I’ll share several very funny stories about liberal tears and culminate with a positive, hopeful and really hilarious true story.

Creative Word-smithing

So who robbed the aid trucks? The suspense grows.

I always tell students that overusing the passive voice is a sign of weak writing but maybe I should use the word “weaselly” instead.

Phone Scammers

I’m in a crabby mood, people. A very crabby mood. First, I had to make myself extremely unpleasant to the bosses who tried to take away our lab under the slogan of “we are doing it for your own good.”

Obviously, nobody comes out and says, “we want to take the lab away.” A phone scammer doesn’t lead with, “I’m calling to swindle you out of your money.” A less jaded, more innocent person would swallow the hook and end up minus a lab. But I’m as jaded as it gets, so I pushed back.

Phone scammers usually proceed to try to scare and humiliate you if you don’t respond to the initial line of attack. That’s exactly what the bosses did, letting me know what a loser and disappointment I am. However, I grew up with a mother who was disappointed by the fact and every consequence of my existence, which cured me from the need to please anyone.

I saved the lab for the next two years, after which it’s out of my hands because I no longer will head the department.

Then, to top it all off, we were told that the university is abandoning Zoom and switching to MS Teams which I detest.

So I’m mega crabby. Does anybody have any good news to get me out of this funk?

What Trump Can Do for Ukraine

Somebody asked what I expect Trump to do for Ukraine. This is an excellent question with a simple answer.

What we need is a massive global crash of oil and gas prices. The US oil production needs to soar. This will be great for the US economy, too. Trump knows how to do it. He’s done it before.

Biden has adamantly refused to give licenses to domestic producers to sell oil to Europe, so Europe has been buying it from Russia this entire time. The EU is begging to be allowed to buy from the US. Isn’t it a complete insanity that we are refusing to sell? So let’s not do that any more, is what I’m saying. Let’s drill, let’s sell, let’s benefit our economy and achieve world peace in the process.

Another Biden Hoax

Looks like I was right in that the whole drama about Biden supposedly giving Ukraine permission to strike air bases inside Russia was a nothing burger. All Biden did was reiterate the old permission that already existed and expanded its reach not at all.

I can’t understand how after observing the Biden administration for years people can still fall for these hoaxes. Truly, they never learn. The Biden administration has been consistently playing the de-escalation game which leads to more escalation from Russia. The persistent show of weakness and impotence on the part of the US that became extremely obvious during the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan is driving every stage of the escalation of the war. We will sit here, mewling about “WWIII” until even China realizes that it can act with complete impunity and will enter the war.

What else needs to happen for people to notice that the Biden administration lies? The truth is usually the exact opposite of what they say. Why is this still so hard to grasp?
