On the subject of the Left’s incapacity to accept the slightest departure from the dogma, I have an illustrative story.

We all know my opinions on abortion. I have been pro-abortion rights forever. I probably haven’t held any other belief for longer. I’m outspoken and sincere. But I do depart from the leftist orthodoxy on abortion in that I believe it’s a tragedy. It’s nothing to be celebrated. Abortion, I believe together with my sisters from 30 years ago, should be safe, legal and extremely rare. The whole society, I believe, is functioning incorrectly if every pregnancy is not celebrated like the wonderful miracle that it is.

When I deliver the above speech to people who are pro-life, the reaction is never to scream at me or call me names. We end up having a conversation where nobody is mean to each other. I talked to Matushka (the priest’s wife) about this, in these very words. Obviously, she disagrees but it was a great, very peaceful, enlightening conversation.

When, however, I say these exact words at a leftist gathering, I get called names on the spot. “But wait,” I say, “I’m on your side on this. I support this right that you say you hold very dear. Why do you call me a fascist?” Especially since fascists were very much pro-abortion for undesirable categories of women, but that’s another story.

Where are liberal middle-of-the-road people? Where are the people on the Left who can say, “I believe in dignity and respect for trans people. But men can’t give birth, teenage girls shouldn’t have their breasts cut off, and nobody is transphobic for saying this”? Or, “gay marriage is good, no discrimination against gays is good, but men shouldn’t be able to purchase babies, and it’s not homophobic to say that”? Why do you have to embrace the most extreme position 100% or you are a Nazi or a psycho?

I shared the link below with a liberal friend, and her immediate and sincere response was, “well, I told you Kirk was a Nazi!”

People read the most middle-of-the-road, mainstream beliefs as Nazi and fascist. And they are utterly unaware of what they are doing and how radicalized they’ve become.

Charlie Kirk was one gigantic gift to the Left. A friendly hand extended over the abyss. I wasn’t a supporter because my goodwill had been tried well beyond my capacity to think anything could be solved by friendly dialogue, like Charlie fervently believed.

The Left should be standing at the head of the line to mourn Charlie. But it became so rigid – while exhorting everybody to be endlessly fluid and hopey-changey, of course – that it sees the slightest departure from its dogma as the absolute deep-end horror. That’s why people on the Left are sincerely confused when I explain that Kirk was a moderate, that he had a gigantic opposition on the Right because he was too moderate.

Charlie Kirk believed what the completely apolitical man smoking by the corner store before his morning shift believes. Or this guy’s very apolitical wife. Or his siblings. Or colleagues. Kirk’s beliefs are mainstream. BLM, pronouns, transing children, and no human is illegal are not. They are boutique ideas that seem much more mainstream than they are because people have been bullied into keeping silent about their rejection of it.

A publishing company keeps badgering me to sign a “licensing agreement” for a book I already published both in hardback and paperback.

I’m very overwhelmed right now. Tomorrow I have another live taping. I have 4 trips, 2 of them international, before New Year’s. Zero words written for the conference talks I’ll deliver. The start of the academic year is kicking my ass. I have a record number of student researchers I supervise.

In short, I have no time for the publisher who’s obsessed with the book I wrote three books ago. But finally I got tired and asked them to explain what they want from me. With a lot of hemming and hawing, the dirty rotten bastards finally confessed….

….. wait for it…..

…. that they want to use my book to train their stupid AI model.

I haven’t responded yet because every email I start begins with intricate Russian curse words. I’m trying to cool down because all I want to do right now is send these people to the place that you can only describe well with intricate Russian curse words.

Speaking of which, I have extraordinary Russian cursing skills and nobody to display them to because everybody I know is too refined for such outrageous profanity.

Citizen journalists seem to have pieced together enough clues to establish the identity of Charlie’s killer. It will have to be regular people solving cases because FBI seems to be impotent.

True. And I can’t wait until a Law & Order: SVU episode where a right-winger is murdered on a campus, and it turns out he raped a bunch of 5-year-olds and their grandmas who assassinated him to stop his crime spree

This is very, very spot on. They won and have been winning since then. Now that there’s some very mild resistance, they are stunned. You saw then at the protests. They are all in their seventies. They’ve had a lifetime of winning everything. And now suddenly there are many people who weren’t alive back then and who are saying they are unhappy with the revolution that the hippie generation had set in motion.

It’s hard to experience your very first setback when you are a retiree.

People say, bad FBI, bad CIA, bad police. Well, this is life without these institutions of the nation-state. Are you happy?

In Great Britain, police only comes if you negatively impact the profit margins of pharmaceutical companies, because that’s what this trans persecution is about. The state is playing on the side of Big Business against the population. This is what mass migration is. This is what COVID lockdowns were. This is what Blackrock buying up real estate all over the country is. This is a post-nation state. Chaos on public transportation, population replacement, censorship, incapacity to apprehend and lock down criminals, the evisceration of the middle class. How do you like it?

Everything is downstream from this. We are experiencing a collapse of the statehood model that gave us the middle class, the historically unprecedented standard of living for the majority, law and order, and political representation. It’s a model that has many flaws. But the model in whose favor we are chucking away the nation-state preserves all these flaws and dispenses with the benefits.

When Walmart wanted a larger market share, the government managed to lock us all up very effectively and give Walmart what it wanted. When Iryna Zarutska bleeds out on a train and Charlie Kirk is shot dead on a campus, the government is impotent and actually quite unwilling to prevent it and apprehend Charlie’s shooter. Walmart and Pfizer always get what they want. We no longer do. And please don’t tell me it was always like this. It was not. We used to have a very large middle class. We used to have an accessible high standard of living for the majority. The age of first home ownership went from 27 to 40 in a very short period of time. Today, you need a yearly salary of $100,000 to buy what, only a few years ago, you could buy with $70,000. And most people don’t even have a salary that high.

This is not a partisan issue. It’s a global issue that goes completely beyond any political belonging. And yes, it’s boring that I keep talking about that. But there’s no issue more deserving of discussion.
