So I stepped on the scales this morning and instead of giving me a number, the scales showed a word.
“Low,” they said.
Eventually I realized, of course, that the word referred to the low battery charge. At first, however, I felt like the scales were trying to make fun of me by providing a sarcastic response.
When my scale’s batteries are low or when it has another error, it makes this face:
o.O
Which, before I realized what it meant, was kind of iffy.

I do not understand why scales are built to need batteries. When I was a child, scales worked perfectly well with self-contained springs; no batteries were needed. Why is needing batteries an improvement??

Oh, I agree! It is so annoying that everything is completely dependent on batteries nowadays. I loved mechanical watches, for example, but now they are all powered by batteries. 😦
