I went to the webpage of a very prestigious journal in my field where I’m thinking of submitting my new article. The Table of Contents of the most recent issue of the journal is populated by scholars who were in the same graduate program with me at McGill University.

That department does not exist any more. It was closed down last year. A department that, in recent years, graduated a group of brilliant young scholars who are getting published in the best journals in the field of Hispanic Studies. I cannot begin to tell you how great that department was and what kind of an amazing intellectual environment existed there.

Whenever I pass by the buildings of McGill University, I feel like I’m seeing a tomb.

    Did you know that McGill University Principal Heather Munroe-Blum is an official advisor to Chancellor Katehi of the University of California, Davis campus also known as the person responsible for the infamous pepper spray incident? It seems that McGill had a similar incident a week before the pepper spray event at Davis and the administrators in California were so impressed with the McGill tactics that it’s known unofficially as the McGill strategy.     In 2010, Principal Munroe-Blum was an attendee at the secret Bilderberg Conference, an international group of financiers and super wealthy, at the Hotel Dolce in Sitges, Spain where she lectured on her well known ambition of the entrepreneurial university where funding comes from corporate sources rather than government funding. I`ve been gathering data in this area off and on with the goal of a post on the subject but I haven`t got around to it.

      I can’t blame Munroe-Blum for the destruction of my department in particular because I know very well what actually happened there. She can be a devil with horns, but this specific thing is not on her. Of course, you should still investigate and write a post on her, but that’s a separate issue.
