Clarissa Wants a Gift

I’m kind of obsessed with numbers, statistics, blog hit records, etc. This is why I got it into my head that the best gift for New Year’s I can get from my blog’s readers is to get all the way up to 1,000,000 hits on this blog. We are at 841,000+ already, so this is very doable. Of course, if we count the blog’s previous platform, we are way past 1,000,000 already, but I really need to see this figure appear on this blog.

I know that many of you are reading the blog in Google Reader and a variety of other readers, and that is perfectly fine. But I ask you as a special courtesy to myself to do me a favor and click on a post or two within the next 3 months. You can also click on old posts in the archives or through a button in the right-hand column of the blog.

I know we can do this, people! And then I will be very happy and write only warm, cuddly, and nice posts. I’m kidding, there will be no cuddliness here.

If there is something I can do to motivate you to click, link, and look up an old post here and there, let me know.

Please note how I’m not trying to trick anybody into making more clicks by placing the bulk of my posts under a fold. I’m swelling with self-righteousness here right now.

Scroll down for new posts and click away!

  1. Funny thing is that I subscribe to the blog using Thunderbird but inevitably end up clicking on the link to read the comments. So much for saving time!

      1. Of course, I should warn you that most of the visitors that it brings in only stay for about five seconds and leave in disappointment. Also, that you get a bunch of really, really creepy search terms.

      2. Or write a post called “Boobs.” I’m not sure if it actually needs to be about breasts in order to reel in lots of hits, but I do know that it doesn’t need to show them or anything. (Seriously. I’ve written maybe 3 posts about breast/bra issues in 500-600. The most popular search term that brings people to my blog is “boobs.”)

Ooh, I didn’t even know one could do that with WordPress. I am sort of fixated on my blog stats too, so I’m now fighting the urge to insert folds on my future blog posts. 🙂

      1. Ah, I type all my posts in the straight HTML format, so I never see that tab or those buttons. In all fairness, I probably should start folding posts with lots of pictures in them, yes? Just out of a desire for MORE CLICKS common courtesy.

  3. In my opinion, what you are asking for is dreadful. That is exactly what every politician begs for. If yoiur columns are interesting and worthy the numbers simply do not matter. If you want the numbers then go for the lowest common denominator and trash your columns. Just focus on pornography and you will get your numbers, but make yourself sick in so doing. That is not the Clarissa that I have read so far.

    1. This is a great challenge, though. Can I write something interesting and worthwhile about fetish pornography? 🙂 🙂

Not to worry, though. I may joke but I will always be exactly who I have been so far. I’m just tired tonight and I try to be playful.

    2. +1
My gentle sensibilities abhor the idea of fetish pornography!
(Or rather the idea of lowing quality to attract hits. Without lowing quality a blog can’t become truly pop culture, aka 100000…0 hits daily.)

I think blogging about sexuality OR Iran bomb / Middle East / Israel would attract many readers. You write a lot on the 1st topic, but hardly ever on the 2nd. Just a hint. 🙂

  4. Just so you know, posts read on Google Reader *are* registered by the WordPress stat counter. (I’m pretty sure, anyway.) Just look at the Top Posts and Pages section on your stats page. If you click on the little magnifying glass by any of those posts, it will show you your visits broken down into on-site views and syndicated views (like Google Reader).

  5. How long has your blog been on this platform? I can see your archives go back to April 2009, but those could have been imported from the previous one.
