We’ve had our classes canceled because of a snowstorm. There isn’t a snow flake in sight, so the entire university decided to flake out and go home.
My Quebecois student and I shared a laugh over the Midwestern terror of the possibility that it might snow.
The Midwest means different things to different people. Where I live, Minnesota, we don’t really see your place as part of our region, for the most part. We wouldn’t cancel a day for snow until the early-risers have all left for work, made it three miles in an hour, and given up. Of course, we’ve canceled school just for cold five times in the last two months, so there goes our tough winter credibility

It did start to snow, though, so I guess this was the right decision after all.

Like Elizabeth, I’m also live in the upper Midwest and I can tell you that hearty folk reside here. We haven’t closed the school at all. Not for feet of snow; not for the bitter cold. I think some elementary schools closed. But that’s about it.
