The real winners, the only actual winners, are people who know how to sell. If you can’t sell, you need to stand as close as possible to those who can. The distance between you and somebody who is good at sales is the same as the distance that separates you from relative comfort and security.
This is neither good nor bad. This is simply capitalism.
It’s more complicated than that. Take Sony corporation. It has been undermined on the market by companies who can supply mass goods at much cheaper prices. It was innovative once, on borrowed technology, but now it will not invest in any research to develop new technology and has adopted an American style of management, which only takes into account short-term managerial outcomes, which means that it does not nurture its talent, so many who were working for it do not see any long term prospects in the company and go to work for its competitors.
Success is not just about selling, but about having a long term strategy and an ability to accurately forecast the changing needs of the market.

Most humans are incapable of thinking past today or at most tomorrow. American universities destroyed their Slavic Studies departments because the Cold War was over. It’s a pity nobody told the other side it was over, though.

They actually think it a sign of evil if you can draw a line between the past, the present and the future, linking them up. That freaks out the modern human totally.

I admit to finding sales somewhat offensive. Both my brothers are excellent salesmen in very different areas; I suspect that I would be unable to sell a life preserver to a drowning man.
As a corollary, whenever I see someone in a business suit, I become guarded and assume they are trying to steal from me through a disingenuous sales pitch.
