Now that Putin has officially invaded Eastern Ukraine (as I predicted weeks ago), the main line of impotent American pundits is that “it isn’t clear” where the Russians will stop.
Nothing teaches these losers. Putin is not planning to stop. He wants global dominance. And he wants the entire territory of Ukraine to be part of Russian Federation.

I hear you. Living 30 km from the old USSR border, I’ve getting the most annoying metaphorical itch between the shoulder blades ever since this began. All I can do is hope against hope something happens that’ll stop this madness, and I’ve never been the praying sort. It’d be a great comfort to believe in the “great men” hypothesis of history because then one could just get rid of Putin, but he’s only the figurehead an immense nation conjured up to fulfill the desires they don’t dare reach for themselves and getting rid of him would do nothing. May this not blow up into a third world war, from what I see, it took 2-3 generations to even begin to heal the damage the second one did. I guess ultimately we’ll endure, preserve what good can be preserved, save our hides if we can and make the best of the hand we’re dealt. I have faith this won’t break Ukraine – I shamefully admit I know little about Ukrainian culture and history, but if after centuries of colonization, Ukraine could still come up with you, I’m led to think this is not a culture easily broken. May it, and you, suffer as little as possible.

Sadly, a third world war is seeming more and more likely. A world war in which many of the adversaries have large nuclear weapon stockpiles.

We have to do this because otherwise we will die more slowly of global warming, it appears. Most unfortunate but it seems to be the mainstream attitude — ignore everything, then destroy everyone.

Clarissa, not saying you’re incorrect, but do you really believe Putin wants global dominance? Or more to just rebuild Russia into an empire and major world power? My own view was more that he was leaning to rebuild Russian into a major power.

– Do you mean a major power alongside the US? He hates the US with a fiery passion. China? The terror of China in Russia is intense, given that the Chinese are slowly overtaking the far East and Siberia. India?

Yes, I mean a major power alongside the U.S. in the world. I would imagine he envisions re-creating something akin to the old Soviet Union. I would think being able to keep secure from countries like China is important too. When you say that the Chinese are slowly overtaking the far East and Siberia, do you mean Chinese immigrants into Russia?

– Yes. There are many of them and this is creating a real panic attack in Russia.
