I just got invited by a very prestigious journal in my field to review an article on Bildungsroman. I’m choosing to take this as a sign that people are becoming aware that I’m THE authority on this genre these days. Even though I quit Bildungsroman after my book was accepted for publication.
Does anybody know if such things should be put on a tenure dossier? Under service?
Yes. You could put it under “service to the field” (to differentiate it from university service.) Alternatively, you could put it down as “additional scholarly activity” since it a) speaks to your success as a scholar and b) requires both thinking and writing. 🙂

I have always listed these under service to the profession. I have often left out the names of authors and titles so as not to inadvertantly compromise the anonymity of the process.
If I were writing a book review for publication under my name, I would list it as scholarly activity.

Yes, add to tenure dossier as “service to the scholarly discipline”. Indicate if this is an ad hoc or an ongoing commitment to review for this journal. You may indicate number of reviews performed, but may not indicate titles, only the general topic.
