My new phone sometimes makes mysterious squeaking sounds that I haven’t yet been able to decipher. Sometimes there is just one squeak. Sometimes there are several in rapid succession. I feel like it’s trying to communicate with me in a language I don’t speak.

I named the phone Marcy,  by the way.

When I was in Zimbabwe and sleeping in a strange place very far from anywhere, I suddenly heard a dull tone in the middle of a night, like a sad frog, peeping once every so often. I thought it may have been a Zimbabwean frog, but it turned out it was my cell phone asking for a recharge.

It’s Furbish, but after 1800 hours of intensive language lessons, your phone will speak to you in Finnish instead. 🙂
