If I ever get another urge to go for a year without a vacation, please do me a favor and hit me over the head with a Teflon frying pan.
I have no idea what possessed me to do it this year but I’m now seeing that this was a really stupid thing to do. I feel completely exhausted, I have trouble sleeping, on Sunday it got so bad that I could barely stay on my feet.
” But look at all of those people who go for years without vacations, ” N said yesterday. “Maybe we should become more like them.”
” Why would we want to do that?” I asked.
” Well, maybe they are tapping into the inner resources that we haven’t learned to access.”
“Or maybe they are idiots,” I countered.
Right now I can’t even remember why skipping this year’s vacation seemed like a smart thing to do back in summer.
The United States has no law regarding vacations.
How long are your vacations normally and how much do you take?

When I was a graduate student, I had two or rarely 1 resort vacations per year. Which is the main reason I got into debt but that’s a different story. 🙂

Plus I have 5 months out of a year completely free so I can be anywhere I want.
I have no excuse for this bizarre decision not to have a vacation.

Teflon is much too light, for where you are a good old cast iron pan (well seasoned) would work better.

I need to survive actually to have the vacation. 🙂

Didn’t buying a house and assembling a tenure file have something to do with it? And it wasn’t so much “a good idea” but “the way things worked out”?
It wasn’t like you decided to not have any vacation to see what it was like….

Yes, that’s true. Also there were huge expenses, including my car, the insurance, the downpayment, the house repairs. Plus I was doing this really urgent translation order that was largely paying for the house repairs. So skipping the vacation seemed logical at the time.
