I agree completely with this blogger that the increasingly frequent use of the verb “yell” in situations where somebody expressed mild disagreement is extremely obnoxious.
I keep wondering what hothouses people exist in if anything they perceive as not being hugely flattering turns into a wound. How do they manage to go through life in this state of beatific enchantment where the universe is supposed to show them nothing but extreme adoration?
In most cases being yelled at seems to mean “I was verbally reprimanded by someone who holds authority over me, but instead of acknowledging my mistake/wrongdoing and/or engaging with this persons arguments/wishes, I will childishly imply that they abused their power”.

The circle of people who use it as a figure of speech is bigger than the circle of people who experience mild disapproval as an ego wound.

In most cases being yelled at seems to mean “I was verbally reprimanded by someone who holds authority over me, but instead of acknowledging my mistake/wrongdoing and/or engaging with this persons arguments/wishes, I will childishly imply that they abused their power”.
It doesn’t even have to be someone who holds any real authority. The same person is likely to turn around and mean, “I was verbally reprimanded by someone who holds authority over me I think has no right to tell me anything because I have a higher social standing but instead of acknowledging my mistake/wrongdoing and/or engaging with this persons arguments/wishes, I will childishly imply that they abused their imaginarypower and I am being so victimized.”

I use this all the time, but my take on it is different.
When I use it, it’s not to indicate that anyone was actually yelled or that they do or should feel victimized in any way.
I tend to use it in cases where the admonishment or instruction goes unheeded or is too late to do any good and there are no likely real world consequences likely to affect the person yelled at.
“Every year the administration yells at us to do X but no one does”.
“They yelled at me because I didn’t turn in that form yet.”
“I keep yelling at the students about that but they don’t pay me any nevermind.”
