I never thought I’d have a good word to say about Harper but I guess miracles do happen:
Stephen Harper doubled down Tuesday on his aversion to face-covering veils worn by some Muslim women, calling them the product of a culture that is “anti-women.”
In Canada – and especially in Quebec with its immigration policy tilted heavily towards French-speakers – this is a real problem.
Please. He instrumentalizes terrorism and the fear of the Muslims to make the Liberals and the NDP fight against each other. That way, we do not talk about the economy and the gas at 50$/barrel. This is a successful strategy, hence the tories will have four more years to promote very male chauvinistic policies.

If the Liberals and the NDP made this very obvious statement first, he wouldn’t have this card to play, would he? Why is it so hard for them to squeeze out the words “Women are fully human and are to be treated as such”?

You are right. As yo0u know I despise the in-between and compromise policies. But lets not be naive: Harper is a master of wedge politics, and he is very good at maintaining paradoxical views in order to gain votes where he knows he can win seats.
