And this is the gift N gave me for our 8th anniversary today. It was shipped from Ukraine, which made the gift even more valuable because I want money to be transferred to Ukraine.

My gift of chocolate hedgehogs  (thank you, reader Jones!) and a computer lap desk was also very successful.

P.S. It’s a necklace, by the way. Looks gorgeous on me.

Gorgeous! Is it a choker that ties in the back? I always thought that style of bead work was Native American. Do they do it in Eastern Europe too or is there perhaps some type of Naïve American influence there? (I ask because I have a bracelet that uses a very similar technique and it’s definitely Native American.)

It’s a specific Eastern European style. This necklace is definitely in an Ukrainian style (compare with https://www.pinterest.com/mariarypan/gerdany-beadwork-ukrainian-style/ ) but similar bead necklaces are also made in Romania, and possibly other countries in the area too.

This is a very traditional form of art in Ukraine. Plus, the whole point of the necklace is that it’s done in the colors of the national flag and has the Ukrainian symbol. It’s a patriotic necklace. 🙂

Oh yes. I recognized the colors and the symbol. I was just interested in the bead work. It is so similar to the bracelet I have. I’m not sure what tribe– perhaps it’s Southwestern. But it’s lovely. I now feel committed to buying some Ukrainian jewelry myself. 🙂

Here is a good Canadian online store for all sorts of Ukrainian things: http://www.yevshan.com/main.asp

It’s owned by Ukrainians from the Diaspora. I know them personally, they are great people.

Of course, buying from eBay directly from Ukraine is even better.
