So guess where I’m staying in London? Right next to the Freud museum, of course! It’s also very close to the Hampstead Heath.
It’s quite far from the center but I’m not that into the center anyway. I just want to walk around and see something authentically London-like (meaning, something that doesn’t remind me of New York.)
Oh, my! I used to live about half a mile from there, and rode my bike along the Finchley Rd on my way to university – looking back, it’s a miracle I didn’t get squashed by a bus or a taxi 🙂
I actually considered it pretty close to the center (for living anyway, maybe not so much if you are visiting).
Apologies for the unsolicited advice, but I can’t help myself: Hop on the (Met line) tube at Finchley Road, get off at Euston Sq or Kings Cross and walk through Bloomsbury to the British Museum. Or, jump on the Jubilee line, get off at Westminster, cross the bridge, then walk along the South Bank of the Thames for as long as you feel like. There is a path that sticks close to the riverside for a long way and it is a lovely place to walk. The middle of Waterloo Bridge is on a bend in the river and gives my favourite views of the city. The old City of London (Square Mile, near the Tower of London) has some fun old alleyways and guildhalls, but is only alive during the working week. And, naturally, I spent a lot of time roaming around Hampstead and the Heath – very nice up there at this time of year. Hope you have a lovely trip!

I welcome all the advice I can get! I’ll definitely try to get to the British Museum because I’ve never been.

Our Israeli acquaintances, who visited London, said they loved walking in its parks. But you probably already have lots of nature in USA, judging by photos of university gardens (?). 🙂

We have the best nature here in my town. Tons of hiking trails, lots of animals that are supposed to be wild but don’t fear humans at all.
