For My Sins

As usual, the resort ‘ s guests ignore the beautiful baby – powder sand beach and cram into a chlorinated pool. A country music band is belting out infernally loud songs at the edge of the pool.

“This is how I will be punished for my sins in hell,” I tell N. “Stuck in a pool with a crowd of people and forced to listen to this horrible noise for all eternity.”

I can think of worse — you could be at a faux posh holiday resort where a local band belts out music that sounds like Jeff Lorber, David Sanborn, or The Rippingtons, but only after it’s been cranked through a Muzak machine several times …

Yes, you could be on a Jazz Fan’s Holiday in Hell. 🙂

[now deploying smooth jazz for lifts in three … two … one …]

    Enjoy your bogans!

I don’t even know the musicians you list but any loud noise is hateful to me. A quiet pianist somewhere at a distance, maybe. But anything louder, brrrrrr.

Have you heard tinny “smooth jazz” music that plays in shopping centres that are trying to be a bit too aspirational?

That horrid stuff — you could have a holiday with that playing instead. 🙂

I understand your feeling completely. It absolutely astounds me when I see people crowding near a pool when a beautiful beach is just down the path. Why pay for an expensive beach vacation at all? Every city has a usable pool– especially during the summer. And– while I love do large fresh water lakes– there is nothing like the feel and smell of salt water. Who would give that up for chlorine and concrete?
