Ready for Yet Another Debate

I’m starting to think that the whole “Bernie stole Hillary’s data” insanity was a ploy aimed at generating at least some interest in today’s poorly scheduled debate. The Democrats are failing to get any press in this election to the extent that I’m afraid soon the only way of making a splash will be to disinter Monica Lewinsky. 

I will watch the debate tonight out of loyalty but once again we will see reasonable people come onstage, calmly say reasonable things, and calmly leave. And viewers will not flock to their TVs for that.

    You know: a lot of people have been complaining about the time slot of the this Saturday Dem debate. But this will be the first debate I’ve been able to watch in a while. I’m busy during the week and watch very little TV then. So I personally appreciate the Saturday debate time slot.

    Plus, I think this is one of the first debates to be on network–instead of cable– TV. Of the other debates that I have been able to watch, I had to watch them on my computer since I don’t have cable. So this is really the first debate of the season that I have been able to watch live on my TV. For me, access has improved! 🙂

    Sanders is beating even Trump in nationwide polls. And look at how much press he’s gotten.

    I do think it’s a little too early to want democratic voters to be energized. The election is 9 months away. Let the dust settle down and the republican nominee to be confirmed, then the fight begins. This republican reality show makes for great entertainment right now but I imagine they wouldn’t like their crazy sound bites to be played back at them in the general election. Why waste ad dollars now?

      There is no doubt we will win. I’d just rather the public space were occupied by the important interesting discussions that this cycle’s Democratic candidates can contribute and not by whatever we have seen at the Republican debates. All that was entertaining but its practical value is nil.

        That’s true, but I don’t think this kind of discussion is possible. Clinton is shamelessly positioning herself to be the champion of the middle class and be even tougher than Sanders on Wall Street. Sanders is desperately trying to prove there’s a difference between him and her but she’s just too slick.

        We’re not going to have a debate about the future of the american worker or the shrinking ‘middle class’ in 1 minute sound bites where all candidates are going to say the same things in order to appeal to the same set of voters.

    To answer your bigger question, yes, I’m ready for the debate. A couple of my friends are vacationing in Palm Springs and we’re hanging out with them today.

    I literally have no doubt we’ll end up watching the debate together. Yay, Saturday night! I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂
