Dehumanizing Refugees

In Germany, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are following the example of Denmark and searching the refugees with the goal of finding money and objects of value to confiscate.

The authorities of these countries leave no stone unturned in their search for ways of making newcomers feel as dehumanized and disaffected as possible. It’s clear that the refugees are not bringing huge wads of cash or sacks of diamonds. Taking away the sad €50 a refugee might be carrying over the limit of €350 in Baden-Württemberg or snatching a family ring will not have a large impact on Germany’s economy. But the policy is not pursuing economic goals. It’s all about pushing the refugees into a ghetto from which they won’t be likely to emerge.

I checked and found this:

If Germans on unemployment benefits are forced to sell everything, as this article seems to claim, why apply a different standard to newcomers?

  I don’t think the unemployed in Germany get searched and have Grandma’s rings seized before they get assistance. Even criminals in jail get their personal possessions kept locked away for them.
  
  I don’t think it’s OK to search people who are not suspected of any crime. I was not searched when I emigrated.

    You were checked (identity, documents, criminal history, etc) by Canada and only then got permission to emigrate, right? Why should Germans not be suspicious, especially in light of real danger of terrorists entering Europe? Many of people entering Europe refuse to disclose their country of origin, let alone provide real documents and/or may be checked before being allowed to enter.
    
    Also, Canada did not ask for your money, but you did your part by not asking for welfare immediately after immigration. You have written angrily about Russian immigrants going to get welfare while being decked in diamonds. Germans want people who will be on welfare for years (in the worst case, forever) to provide for themselves to the best of their ability. I think it is fair. Those people will get in welfare much much more than they give.

      Humiliating people, intruding upon their privacy, robbing them are not things that should ever be done. There is no excuse. These are people, not inanimate objects.
      
      If from the very start the relationship is established in these terms, there is little hope that things will improve with time. Both times I emigrated, I was treated with respect and dignity. And I fully integrated and like both countries where I emigrated.
      
      But if you place people in the position of cattle from the start, good luck figuring out why they never integrate and react with disaffection.

Do you think that one of the main reasons for bad integration of immigrants in European countries is their treatment by governments? But then how do you explain different rates of success in different immigrant groups?

I think most Germans do not want more arrivals and, while still thankfully usually refraining from physical attacks at migrants, express their aggression by supporting such policies. May be, they hope it will make Germany less attractive, send some message “do not come here.”

He writes:

” So let’s just hope the next woman, wherever she may be, also has pepper spray and knows how to use it. Oh, and that the initial blow to the head doesn’t kill her. Oh, and that the two men don’t decide to start killing the women they rape to eliminate witnesses.”

When something like that happens and it will soon, things will get even uglier.
