Imagine how it would sound if I declared that I don’t support Bernie because I don’t like his wife. But a male blogger thinks nothing of sounding like a superficial brat.

Nobody tried to force anything on anybody. Let’s not be melodramatic. As the first lady, Hillary had zero political will and personal agency of her own. Everything else is a fantasy.

She had the agency and the will and full authority from her husband to create Hillarycare, which congress refused to pass into law — nothing fanciful or melodramatic about that historical reality.

The words “from her husband” cancelled out everything that came before. Acting on somebody’s orders is the opposite of will and agency.

It wasn’t “orders” — it was “permission.” Giving someone permission to do something doesn’t cancel that person’s will or agency.
You have permission from your university to teach. Does that cancel your agency in the classroom?

Permission to teach??? Where are you getting this from? This is completely ridiculous.
And when one adult gives “permission” to another adult, that sounds like an abusive relationship.

You said Hillary was acting on Bill’s “orders” and therefore had no agency. I was countering that ridiculous suggestion with an equally ridiculous one about teaching.
Actually, whenever you hire someone to do any kind of job — including skilled work like teaching and surgery — the employer (the school, the patient) is granting permission to the employee (the teacher, the surgeon) to perform a service (teach using the school’s facilities, cut on the patient’s body, etc.).
When people interact in society and business, just about everybody gives and gets “permission” at some level to go about his/her activity. (People just don’t call it that.)

I have a contract with the university. I can assure you that the word “permission” is not in it. I’m also not the university’s wife, thank God in heaven. 🙂
I can also freely confess that I wouldn’t be able to exist in a situation where I’d be a sidekick to a superstar husband. I don’t have the humility for that.

One wishes political spouses played no part in their spouses’ career, but that’s American politics for you. There are a lot of people who discount anything HRC has done since Bill left office because she was a political wife. Honestly there are people who refused to vote for Bill because of Hillary and who voted for him because of her. FWIW, I think she handles “being connected to another politician by marriage or birth” better than Trilogy does and it’s not just “Bill Clinton is more popular than W”.
